Girls' trip; shared double room for 4 nights to cut expenses.

Pros:
- Location, Location, Location. Great base for exploring the Old Town, for shopping along the river, for reaching the busses and trains, and for crossing the river at several bridges. Zurich is a lovely city that you can wrap your arms around.
- Overall, the room and property are lovely and charming. Our room featured wood accents and a pretty mural. Our view looked outside of the hotel down a charming alleyway. Make sure to check out the courtyard accessible through an archway to left as you exit the hotel: cafe and bar seating away from the main crowds.
- Great fondue restaurant attached immediately to the hotel. Check out the chocolate fondue for dessert too. Note, you will likely need reservations. There is no separate bar-only area ( I.e., if you're not at a table, there is no place to sit or wait). There are lovely outside tables and blankets are provided during cold weather.
- Front desk staff spoke good functional English, and acted efficiently to help as needed.
-Asked for two twin beds, received them, and just had to split them up when they were originally set up together.
-In-room fridge contained bottled water that was replenished each day for no additional charge.
-Good shelf space in bathroom.
-Basic Continental Breakfast served in the attached restaurant each morning. Or, you can order hot food from a limited menu.
-Mobile devices can be charged at the in-room desk using only USB cords. Other outlets, like those near each nightstand, require adapters+converters.

Cons:
-No in-room coffee, or appliances for heating water.
-Beds were lower and harder then expected, and my mattress was lopsided. Pillow was softer than preferred and there were no additional pillows in the room. I did not mention these issues to the desk. Had I done so, there may have been a solution.
-Bathroom door is transparent glass!! We first used a blanket to cover it for some (visual) privacy. That worked well for our first three nights, until housekeeping inexplicably removed that blanket from our room entirely. Upon request, the front desk gave us a sheet to replace it. It worked fine for our final night.
-One morning, I asked for a tray so I could take coffee and breakfast back to the room. Restaurant staff was very accommodating. When we returned to our room later that night, the tray had not been removed even though the room had been serviced. We put the tray in the hallway, where it remained when we checked out the next day. Maybe we were supposed to return the tray ourselves?

While the cons above are enough for me to consider another property next time, the price for the location is truly hard to beat.

Dear Alicia E

Thank you for your feedback, we take it ver seriously and will speak to the housekeeping Manager. We are a three star superior hotel and you are right with your guess that we normally don’t provide a room service. Surely we should remove the tray in the floor when seen by the room cleaner. We are happy to learn by mistakes in order to provide a better service.

We hope to welcoming you again at the Adler and show you our improvement.

Kind regards

Tessy

We loved the Adler and our only regret is that we didn't eat dinner there. Having spoken to two different friends that lived and worked in Zurich , we hear we missed a great opportunity.
We were here at the end of a three week trip traveling all over Europe.
As mentioned, Adler has an ideal location, super convenient. .. But we especially enjoyed the aspect of wandering some of the quiet neighborhoods of the old town away from the bustle and observing the locals and lovely window boxes and gardens.
We had a balcony room and enjoyed sharing a bottle of wine bought a block away, at our balcony table while watching the street activity. It does get a bit noisy quite late, with voices below on the street as Im pretty noise sensitive- so I just used my travel earplugs and slept soundly in their comfortable bed.

We spent two nights at Hotel Adler in September. There's not much more I can add than what has already been said - great location (walking distance to wherever you want to go), modern room (ours had air conditioning which was very welcome as there was a heat wave when we were there), quiet (we were on the 4th floor looking out from the back of the hotel - no view but we wanted quiet at night).

The breakfast in the morning had the usual items on offer - and also includes eggs (cooked to order).

We didn't eat dinner at the restaurant, but we heard that it was very good.

We recommend Hotel Adler.

I stayed three nights at the Adler. This is a great little hotel right in the heart of the old town. It was a short walk from the train station, and to all the major sights. Plenty of dining options nearby, including the hotel's own restaurant. Lots of little streets and alleyways with nice shops and cafes to explore too.

My 1st floor room was nice, but there was a bit of noise from the kitchen below. A continental breakfast was included and the wifi worked well.

I can recommend staying here.

We stayed 3 nights here and found the Hotel Adler to be in an excellent location with the beautiful Old Quarter of Zurich right on the doorstep and the rest of Zurich just minutes away by tram or a relaxed stroll.
We walked from the main Zurich HB train station, with our bags, in under 10 minutes - in fact it would have been significantly less if we'd exited out of the station correctly.
The breakfast was fabulous and whilst the beds were a little soft for us, the room was perfectly adequate and being woken by the bells of GrossMunster each day was wonderful.
The only, very minor, downside was because the building is so old, the floors seem to be very thin so we could hear everything going on in the kitchen below us. But, that stopped well before midnight and was only a minor annoyance, I suspect a room on an upper floor might be better if you're a light sleeper.
