We picked this hotel for its price and to have a view of Lake Como. Our room faced the water, and it had a small balcony which was a nice touch. If you ask the manager, you can get free passes for the buses to get around town. Also, the visitor's center is just a block away near the lake so it is easy to get maps, etc ofr your stay. There was free wifi here. There is no ac in the rooms, so beware if you go in the summer. The worst thing about this hotel is that there is a hooka bar below the hotel that you must walk by to get in the front door. Luckily for us it was cool and not as many people were smoking outside as there could have been. This definitely impacted my enjoyment of this hotel.

The good......
Location. Right in town. Across from the tour boat dock, right on the best lakeside floral walking trail anywhere. 10 minutes nicel walk to the train station, Restaurants, shopping, you name it, you can walk to it.

The bad,
The room is pretty average. No air conditioning. Just a small fan.
Small bathroom with zero counter space, no hot water pot, no coffee in the room, Two twin beds next to each other with a 6 inch gap, 1 pillow each, but we paid extra for nice city view and nice big doors that open onto the lake view (across a street)
Breakfast was included, 4 types of cereal, breads, big coffee maker, sliced lunch meats, cheese, and orange juice. There is someone that will make you a cheese omelette if you ask.

We stayed for 3 night in September... let’s start with the good stuff: excellent location, close to the train and bus stops and to many attractions in the area. The staff was very helpful, friendly and kind, made us feel welcomed. Also there are great adjustable beds in the rooms! Few things for improvement.. carpets are so dirty, it’s a real shame... also the entrance smells like cigarette smoke as there is a pub below the hotel, we recommend a high floor room to avoid the noise and smells of the street. The room had a lovely view of the lake, but the lack of air conditioning is unfortunate.
In conclusion, for 3 stars it was fine!

The Hotel Splendid is in an historic building so you can't expect a modern hotel room. There was no air conditioning but the windows could be opened and there was a fan which we didn't have to use. The room was average size with a beautiful view of the lake from our third floor balcony. The bathroom was small with a small circular shower. The only drawback was if you used the toilet you had to sit under the sink. A bit challenging! The room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included with a croissant and two rolls on each plate. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. It is in a very convenient location once you find your way. We got off of the train and went up to the street above! This was NOT the way to the hotel. When you arrive at the Montreux train station you just go down the escalator and turn left out of the building. Cross the street and about a block down on the right you will see a black and white sign with arrows pointing up and down. Walk down the small alley and you will find the lift down to the street below. Turn left and the hotel is just a short walk. The hotel is in a great location near many restaurants, the tourist bureau and it's beautiful when you walk the boardwalk at night.

The place has a beautiful terrace and a beautiful view, but the rooms are extremely average. No air conditioning (which I know is common in Switzerland, but it’s still worth noting). There was one pillow per bed and it was so so thin- I would highly recommend additional pillows! It’s noisy downstairs and the bathroom is small with just a handheld shower rod (again, typical of Switzerland). With that being said, the views ARE great so just know you are paying for that more than the quality of the room and hotel. The front desk was also extremely friendly and helpful!
