I actually never expected to see this miracle of a mountain, so when we arrived in Zermatt, and it popped out of the clouds, it was completely breath-taking.
We came with a tour group, and had no intention of skiing, but even in the autumn, it would have been possible.
The peace of the mountain and the town is not disturbed by loud vehicles, as the town requires soundless electric ones only. This has the added benefit of keeping the skies clear for the magical moments, usually in the morning, when the Mountain comes out to be admired.
