Bed & breakfast only

Review of Coeur des Alpes
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 27 Jan 2013
We were expecting something more after booking based upon trip advisor reviews. The loft apartment was "funky" and very clean, and the breakfast quite nice. We were disappointed that the Matterhorn view from our loft did not exist ( unless you went to the terrace, climbed over chest deep snow, and strained around the corner with your camera).Previous reviews praised the warm welcome , so we were not so happy to wait at the station whilst another couple was collected first,be picked without one word said ( no English maybe), and in the lobby note the couple having lovely snacks and an animated conversation with the owners whilst we were - for a second time- ignored. On two of the 7 nights the cleaners rushed in to do our rooms whilst breakfasting ,and as we had ski lessons to attend we had to ask them to leave so we could quickly get our ski wear on. It was early, surely this was an unnecessary intrusion, almost as if we were being "watched". After a big day on the slopes, preparing to go to the pool, the owner spoilt my evening by "telling me off" - with a fake smile- for wearing my Après boots as they may damage the floors. I noted the wooden floors had heaps of scratches and I noted the owner walking around in ski boots the following day. My daughter was sick one evening and we could only find sandwiches in Zermatt at that time, I guess we are more "hotel & room service" type of people. We were unable to close the curtain as the electronic switch was faulty. We reported the fault but it was not fixed and thus for the final 5 nights of our stay could not close the curtain of the loft. LOVED Zermatt, but we have travelled 5 star around the world, and to our disappointment this was just a fancy B & B - not a 5 star establishment!

If I could stay at only one hotel in Switzerland, this would be it. Coeur des Alpes is a beautiful, immaculate, peaceful, warm-modern hotel. We stayed in a fireplace suite, which was spacious beyond belief. The spa, pool, and Hammam are beautiful. The breakfast buffet was filled with fruit, cereals, cheeses, meats, breads, etc.--and they offered to make eggs for us as well. The views of the Matterhorn are breathtaking. But what truly makes this hotel our favorite is the exceptionally warm service from the owners, Leni and Thomas, and their entire staff. We were offered a drink on the patio upon arrival. One evening at 10pm we requested times for four of us to have massages the following morning. The young man on night duty miraculously arranged to have their massage therapist arrive by 10am--and did so willingly. Earlier he had placed a food delivery order for us with a Zermatt Italian restaurant. We love Coeur des Alpes so much that we are returning in June 2013 with our four teen-aged grandchildren. And already the service has been exceptional. They found the perfect-sized accommodation for us, which I've found is difficult in the USA, as well as in Switzerland.

Room tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Matterhorn.

I know this hotel for years and I love it. The difference to other great hotel is the personal touch by the owner Leni and Thomas and there team. It's a family feeling you get there and it's a great spot to celebrate holidays together with friends and family. It's a small garni hotel but the rooms are nice and clean, the suites are bigger and modern with the Swiss Alp chic and a great view of the Matterhorn. It's vey close to the mountain railway and the ski slopes. The spa is small but great and the best of all is the personal touch you get. The lobby is like a alp lounge with a warm and wonderfull feeling. Nothing beets this hotel in Zermatt.

Room tip: You travel alone you can get a small room. The nice suites are good for a smal family. The new lofts are great but a litle pricy.

Revisit ... and still the best place and our favorite spot! Owners and staff are amazing ... again you feel like at home, but with no work at all. We still stay in the "old part" but the new lodges are also highly recommended. During winter season don't miss the "Raclette" event. Go to the website it's all through!
The SPA is Excellent too!

Room tip: We like the "Galerie-suite" ideal with family with two to three kids. Or the "Dach suite" for 2 and one kid.

We had a fabulous week staying at this hotel and recommend it wholeheartedly. You get a very personal service and the hotels owners genuinely want you to have a good time. We stayed in one of the cube rooms which was great fun - loads of room and quite whacky! The children stayed in a standard double room with shower which was a bit cramped and a bit disappointing (our 16 yr old daughter was not best pleased having to share a bed with 15 yr old brother!). The hotel is a 4 minute walk to the Bubble ski lift to Furi - this gives you easy access to all the resort (Cervinia and Rothorn). We left our boots etc at the ski hire shop next to the lift which worked well.

My wife and 2 of the children loved the spa and spent a happy hour after skiing doing what you do - not my sort of thing.

We had a look at quite a few of the other hotels in Zermatt and felt we made the right choice - no hint of hotel envy!

Room tip: Spend a little more and avoid the small double rooms with shower. The cube rooms have a bed/shower room and separate loo upstairs and a freestanding bath and sitting room downstairs - the bath sits to the side of the sitting room and is very 'open plan'. We would certainly book a cube room again.

This is an excellent small hotel located high above town in Zermatt. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this “boutique” establishment. The owners, Leni and Thomas, have taken care to provide great service to all and they are ever-present. Staff was friendly and attentive. We booked a fireplace suite and we burned a fire each night – bitterly cold nights to be exact. Our room was made up at least twice daily, robes were provided, and new firewood was provided each day as well. The pool and fitness center are highlights with many different options available. Breakfast was also outstanding and they offered cooked to order choices as well as the buffet.
One small complaint in the room - the lighting over the double sinks and mirrors was minimal (one small lamp each) and made applying makeup and shaving difficult. The free-standing tub was a delight, but be careful not to splash water on the floor when taking a shower – be sure the curtain goes all the way around!
Access to this hotel is through a tunnel bored into the rock and up a lift to the reception. This was really a wonderful location and we highly recommend it.

Room tip: The hotel is well above the street so very limited outside noise that we were aware of.
