I love spicy food. So when I travel I look for Indian restaurants or Thai food. iPhone does restaurant by accident looking for the Indian restaurant which is no longer there. The place was quiet, the server was very friendly and the food was excellent. But in Basel, Thai food restaurants are dime a dozen

While the restaurant looks nice the food is rather average.
There are better Thai alternatives close by and the waiter made many mistakes with the food , like serving red beef curry and explaining it was squid, mixed the drinks up. Tom Kha Kai soup was not great , it had a lot of meat in it but lacked flavor.

I have been visiting Basel for a number of years, and usually stay around the Messeplatz/Clarastrasse area. Whenever I'm in town I like to get at least one chance to eat at Jeffrey's Erewan Thai -- it has been consistently a very good place to eat over many years. The standout thing about Jeffery's is the food -- always well flavoured, always a good portion, and always piping hot. The Red Curry being a particular favourite of mine, but they do everything pretty well. The service is also great, quietly efficient and unflustered. The only reason for the title of the review is that I have also discovered the 'Thai Family Sudsaard restaurant, which is just around the corner from my usual hotel (and very close to Jeffrey's). The food there is on a par, but the place itself is much more exotic, and a bit more special. It's a close-run thing, and I will always head back to Jeffrey's, but I would say they have slipped to #2 in the list for now.

Food OK but rice portions are small. extra rice can be ordered - and usually is needed. Prices on the high side but not too extortionate give the location

Let's start with the food: it tastes great, they serve you the curry in pots that are heated by a candle and they look at the amount of spice they add (so a big plus for anyone who can't bear those spices)
The service was kind and gentle.
The location is superb, just next to the Messeplatz (exhibition square) and the restaurant is decorated with some Thai goods which gives it a nice ambience. Finally the price is really fair.
I'll definitely come back again.
