We walked the 4kms up the Monte Subasio to Eremo dells Carceri. It was extremely hot but felt like a mini pilgrimage and seemed to give more meaning to the visit. It is the most beautiful place where St Francis and his followers retreated from the town to pray and meditate.

It was the refuge in the mountains of Assisi, of Sant François of Assise, now it's a small monastery for visits, a quit and simple hermit refuge, for relax and meditations; Assisi is in the province of Prerugia, it's a place of pilgrimage.

Solitude and silence and the sacred radiation of the holy men with Saint Francis may bless everyone who comes here to pray.

We decided to walk the path up to the hermitage on a hot July day. At 55 years old and not in the fittest form, at times we wondered why. As we got closer, we were very happy we did. Just to walk the same walk St Francis walked so many times to his favorite place to pray was an amazing experience. This is my absolute favorite place. It is so beautiful and peaceful and I definitely felt the spirit of St Francis with me as I hiked and prayed. The cave St Francis prayed in is now inside. Sit down and say a prayer and bring your self to a different time. There are many places along the path to just sit and reflect. When things get hectic here at home, I try to put myself back there in my thoughts.
