“Beautiful and well run house”

This is a very special 19th century family house, much cherished and unlike any other rented house we've stayed in. There is also a wonderful swimming pool in the grounds. The owners provided a thought out and comprehensive guide to the property, were very friendly and we felt well looked after. On top of that the whole place is pervaded by a sense of peace. Nearby Lucca is beautiful and local facilities are excellent.

If I had any criticism it would be that for 10 people, the kitchen table is too big for the size of the kitchen (so difficult to manouevre round) and there is too much "stuff" on the shelves so preparing food can be a little awkward.

Having said that, the experience of staying in 'Bell'Estate' is not to be missed - we had a really wonderful time there.

“An Absolute Treasure”
Reviewed 21 June 2017 for a stay in April 2017

It's hard to put in words just how beautiful this house and its gardens were. It had such charm and warmth and history. We treasure our time spent there. We were there mid April so the pool wasn't open yet, but it didn't matter. The Wisteria Arch was in full bloom and it was gorgeous! There were 12 of us, ranging in age from 20 months to 71 yrs. We had plenty of space for all to be together, but it was easy enough to find your own special cuby. The weather was gorgeous during the day and at night we were able to light a fire in the fireplace. It was convenient enough to go into Lucca (one of our favorite cities) and convenient for day trip to Cinque Terre, to College Verde organic vineyard and olive orchard or other excursions. But we loved coming home to "Bell". Alessandra was so considerate and helpful, made sure we received information we would need. We had Sonia prepare dinner for us the first day we arrived and our last night there (good decision). Being at Bell Estate with my family will always remain one of my most treasured memories. It is more than just a beautiful house. The description by the person who wrote "Enchanted" was spot on. I have only one regret - we weren't there long enough. I can't wait to return.

“A peaceful, rejuvenating, and special place”
Reviewed 23 November 2016 for a stay in November 2016

This house has given us everything we wanted and more. We stayed the first time 2 years ago with family, and now more recently with a group of very close friends. The best way I can describe the magic of the time spent there is that great feeling of time slowing down.

Immersed in the peaceful beauty of the Tuscan countryside this is house is comfortable and very well taken care of.

The house feels authentic, it feels solid, and charming, and cozy. We all felt like we grew up in the house together after a few hours, it was all very familiar. You can't ask for much more than that from a rental property for a large group.

It's full of antiques (and not like a warehouse of dusty objects - which you see in many of these old villas). Rather, each item has a purpose and is placed perfectly. That combined with the subtle modernity of amenities, mades our 7 day stay, quite authentic and easy. The owner curated an incredible booklet of information on the house and the surrounding area - made a big difference in how we enjoyed our stay.

The grounds around the house are large and beautifully kept. Apart from one stormy day, we had warm and sunny late summer weather, so we used the outside space a lot - especially the large pool and the outside table where we had most of our meals. If the weather permits it, I strongly recommend candle lit dinners under the linden tree: with good company and a glass of red wine, you’re in heaven!

We had planned to show our friends the surrounding areas, but didn’t get around to it. Lazy summer days, spent mostly at the house with the almost daily short bike ride to Lucca, was all we ended up needing.

During our previous stay we did quite a bit of exploring. I would recommend Pietrasanta, a town packed with ancient sculptures and great restaurants, as well as the port of Viareggio, great for seafood dinners, and finally, driving up to the eerily beautiful Garfagnana valley.

I’m an expat who has lived in Italy for over 10 years, so I've been lucky enough to learn the pros and cons of living here. I have grown used to not expecting the best customer service in Italy (an understatement - it can be non existent in many, many places!). Italians are naturally very warm and hospitable, but when met with special requests, or differing expectations, can many times go right over there heads. The owner of this villa was nothing short of incredible. She showed a uncommon attentiveness to our sometimes ‘foreign’ needs. A great example was when she discovered one of our guests had some pretty strict dietary restrictions, she provided us with a list of local grocery stores that met those needs - without us even having the chance to ask! So hard to find that kind of experience here.

Thanks again for a great trip and for taking care of us so well!

Over all, highly recommended. We will be back!

“Enchanting romantic and spacious home”
Reviewed 11 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

This enchanting house is right out of a D.H. Lawrence novel. It's tucked on a tiny quiet road; a mossy stone marker inscribed 1892 greets you as you approach along the gravel drive.
The garden hosts majestic chestnut and cypress trees, with an arched tunnel of wisteria. Inhale the fragrance of lemon and olive trees or wander down the winding path lined with bamboo that leads to an very large private swimming pool nestled in a little valley. Swim and sunbathe in total privacy while across the valley you can glimpse a gorgeous old Tuscan chapel. The grounds of this property are delightful (mosquitos were a non-issue on my visit) and I recommend any guest take advantage of them.

Inside the house, admire the Carrara marble sink and matching kitchen table, and the elegant tile. Enjoy the incredible craftsmanship of the generous original windows. During our visit, I slept with them open each night to enjoy the August breezes and the songs of crickets. So peaceful!

Don’t expect electronically operated shutters or a TV in every room; this is not a high-tech house. But it has all the important comforts and amenities, such as a strong and reliable WiFi, and a wonderfully equipped kitchen for cooking and gathering with friends. If you're looking for the tranquility of the countryside, a spacious romantic garden in which to relax, socialize, and have your meals, and the genuine glamour of days gone by, don't miss this beautiful home.

“Earth in Heaven”
Reviewed 25 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Bell'Estate is a beautiful property to which I've returned twice with family and friends. The house is immaculately maintained, the grounds are exceptionally beautiful, and the wonderful swimming pool is very large, wonderful for lap-swimming and overlooks the hills south of Lucca. We were so very joyful, happy and comfortable in the house, or lemon grove, playing table tennis, or swimming, and dining al fresco on wonderful local produce, that we could think of no other holiday we'd enjoyed so much; we plan to return every year for as long as we can. The housekeeper and groundskeeper are wonderful, discreet, professional, and the villa and grounds glow with their loving care. There are many lovely details and thoughtful touches in the bedrooms and house too numerous to fit in this review. Bell'Estate is a very special place indeed.
