Excellent location with a memorable breakfast offer!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Oct 2016via mobile
This B&B is located in the heart of the Uffizi. Rooms were clean and well-appointed in spite of the uninspiring entrance and small lift. Another benefit was the opportunity to have breakfast at a hotel looking out over the Ponte Vecchio - brilliant food and a memorable setting.

The location of this B&B cannot be beat. It is literally steps from the Uffizi Gallery and maybe a 10 minute walk from the Duomo if you're casually strolling and taking in the sites. There is shopping a plenty as far as the eye can see just around the corner! The staff at La Torre dei Salterelli was so delightful and accommodating. We had a Tuscan excursion planned on our day of check out and they let us keep out 7 (!) bags in their space until we came back that evening. So nice! My only qualm with the B&B is the noise level at times. Unfortunately there was street work being done right in front of the entrance which added to the noise (not La Torre's fault though!) and there are 2-3 restaurants that share the same small square with La Torre dei Salterelli, which led to some late nights for us. Not to mention the church bells toll until 11pm and start again at 6am. Again, it was something we could deal with, but I personally would have preferred it to be a little quieter. Overall, a marvelous stay!

We spent four nights in Florence at La Torre Dei Salterelli, a centrally-located and lovingly-run B&B. Fiammetta and her colleagues are one of the main reasons to stay (and return) to this fantastic B&B/guesthouse. The B&B is located down a narrow alley steps from Palazzo Vecchio in the Piazza della Signoria, as well as the Uffizi Gallery and the Ponte Vecchio. In this regard, its location is perfect (the walk to the Duomo is 10 minutes, if that, and high-end shops on Via Tornabuoni are just around the corner).

The B&B is compact and decorated functionally, with comfortable beds, a small table with an electric kettle, a smart TV that can access Netflix, and a large walk-in shower. The lighting is modern and surrounds the bed/room in a really neat manner. Our room looked over a narrow side-street that contained restaurants, cafes, and residential apartments across the way. You feel very much a part of the City staying at this B&B, nestled a few streets away from the commercial hustle & bustle on Via Por Santa Maria/Ponte Vecchio. We arrived during a few days of rain and, at first blush, the room - with windows closed - felt a bit humid and smelled damp; however, the moment we opened the windows in the room and bathroom, we caught a lovely breeze and the atmosphere of the room opened up just fine. The wifi worked the best of all of our hotels, so much so that we streamed Netflix before bed from our own account. They also offer AirPrint for patrons who have iPhones.

Again, the real reason to stay here is the personal touch from the staff; you really feel at home. When our tour guide for a trip to Siena was late, they helped us contact the tour company and spoke to the company contact on our behalf to determine what was happening. After finding out it was our honeymoon, they came back to our room with a bottle of Prosecco and little glasses. Also, we wanted to eat in places featuring local flavor and patrons, so Fiammetta gave me recommendations and also made us a reservation near the Duomo at Osteria Dell'Olio (the Florentine beef is as amazing as people say). We also made our own reservation at Trattoria 4 Leoni (recommended to us as noted above), a short walk across the Arno (bring a dictionary or your phone to translate the menu if you do not speak Italian). The home-made pasta and risotto were beyond compare, as was the 4 Leoni house salad.

Because the B&B is located on the third floor of a flat that houses other businesses and residents, breakfast is served at Cafe Alfieri, a 10-minute walk from the B&B. Cafe Alfieri is located right on the Arno. Breakfast is usually 11 euro, and it is more like a brunch spread (eggs, bacon, souffle, croissants (savory and sweet), pastries, cheese, ham, prosciutto, tomatoes, yogurt, etc.). The food is fantastic and eating outside while looking at Ponte Vecchio is an experience worth having.

I was sad to leave La Torre Dei Salterelli and everyone I met while there. I cannot wait to return!

Room tip: Our room faced a well-travelled alley/road, but the noise was not problematic for me.

We loved staying here, for the location and for the staff. The little street, or alley, where the hotel is located is just around a corner from the Piazza Signora, and also from the Uffizii Gallery. It is quiet and peaceful as well. The room was nicely furnished, with excellent lighting, a small fridge and good air conditioning. The bathroom has beautiful tile work, but a slightly awkward shallow sink. It looks a bit better than it works!
The staff was always helpful and friendly. I would recommend this place for anyone wanting to be in the middle of "everything" in Florence. It's wonderful to be able to dash back to your room to pick up an umbrella, a hat, or a quick lie down!

Service was really excellent, very helpful team !! Location could not be better, just next to Palazzo di Vecchio !
Very nice room. One thing to mention : the first day we had a quite small room with a terrible smell (second floor). The next day, they gave us another room, quite larger and everything was perfect.
An excellent buffet breakfast is delivered in another place, 5 minutes from The Torre.
To recommend !!
