Excellent location being only a few minutes from the train and bus stations by foot. Close enough to walk even when pulling a suitcase. Taxi is unnecessary for majority.
The hotel has no high level or protruding Street signage so keep your eyes open for the door mat that has the hotel name on it. No Street level windows...just the door. A few steps to negotiate to enter the hotel but not a problem.
A very friendly and efficient welcome at reception and we were in our room within minutes. A second floor double room facing onto the main street outside. A small lift/elevator is beside reception. The room was beside the lift and there was no noise other than people being loud and disrespectful of others.
The room was adequate in size for two people. It was very clean and had older furnishings which matched the hotel as a whole. If you seek modern furnishings ...this is not the hotel for you.
The bed is quite firm but was comfortable and clean. Extra pillows and bedding were in the wardrobe.
No tea/coffee in room but a mini bar fridge which we didn't use as there are several shops a couple of doors down.
The bathroom was small. It needed an update. It was clean but tired. Shower position (in corner and over bath) meant water escaped onto floor. Good complimentary toiletries provided and clean towels.
Breakfast was excellent. Juice. Toast. Fruit. Cereals. Yogurt. Pastry. Cake. Boiled eggs. Hot scrambled eggs and European sausage. Tea available freely. Coffee made to order and was truly excellent with waiting staff regularly bringing more cups as needed.
Breakfast was available in the building or you could choose to take it into the courtyard garden.
The hotel location is excellent. Beside Santa Maria Novella piazza and church. Only a ten minute stroll to all of the other tourist attractions of Florence. We were roadside but no overnight noise to keep us awake. Some early morning trading noise though this is to be expected.
We used this hotel as a Base. It was not where we spent most of our time. Up, breakfast and out all day....back to hotel to sleep. We spent our time in the galleries and museums etc. I would therefore recommend this hotel. It's price reflects it's excellent location. It is old fashioned not modern but has charm and authenticity. The staff are friendly and helpful. They spoke far better English than my poor attempt at Italian.
I would stay again.

We stayed here for five nights on a cultural trip to Florence with a group, with a busy itinerary. So it was great to return each day to this comfortable historic hotel.
The Hotel was a former Medici Palace, designated a C15 historic monument with original frscoes and period furniture. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful.
Very clean, spacious room and bathroom.Tea and coffee facility.Very quiet, with comfortable bed and pillow so we slept really well.A good nights sleep is my most important requirement on holiday.
Plenty of choice at the breakfast buffet, freshly made coffee. Quiet garden courtyard in which to read and relax.
Very central location..10minutes from the centre of Florence with the Dominican church of Santa Maria Novella and large piazza nearly next door.Plenty of restaurants nearby.
As we were leaving at 6-30am,the hotel thoughtfully left breakfast snacks in each room. What a nice touch.
We fell in love with Florence and very much enjoyed staying at the Palazzo dal Borgo.

This is a lovely little hotel located a short distance from the main train station.
As with all old buildings that have been converted, the lift is small and the stairs uneven, but I think that just added to the charm of the place, as did the original frescoes and period furniture.
If you are evenly moderately fit, the hotel is within walking distance of all of Florence’s big attractions.
Breakfast is great - no coffee machine here - the staff make your espresso to order. I think the kids at the next table thought it was Christmas again with chocolate cake and hot chocolate at the same time.
Best thing about a small hotel? It was my husband’s birthday during our stay and they sent a complimentary bottle of wine up to our room. You won’t get that at The Hilton!!

Dear pkjk72, many thanks for such an enthusiastic review. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay with us. It is our job to make our guests happy, having offered a bottle of wine for your husband's birthday, it seemed to us the least. This is the uniqueness and the beauty of staying in a small / medium-sized Hotel, where we can satisfy every single guest. We really hope to see you again in the next future at Palazzo Dal Borgo!

Best Regards

Highly recommended. Very comfortable and spacious rooms. 24hr reception. Terrific location close to station and 5mins walk to Duomo. Wonderful buffet breakfast. Our room was a four poster bed and our adult son had a double bed room next door. Would definitely stay here again. Don’t miss the14th Century pharmacy and perfumery just about 5 doors up.

+

The hotel is only a few minutes walk from the train station
Short walk into Florence centre
Attractive hotel in terms of furnishings and art work
Variety of breakfast options
Pretty courtyard to enjoy breakfast
Clean room
Staff were friendly and helpful
Looked after our bags on our last day after checkout

-

No clothes iron facility due to "fire regulations" however there is a dry cleaners a few doors down, we had a shirt and suit jacket pressed for 7€

Best not to use mini bar; small bottle of water cost 2.50€. There are shops a few doors down where you can get beers, water etc at very reasonable price

-no tea/coffee facility in the room

-Road can be noisy if you have windows open but we didn't spend much time indoors during the day and the room has good air con anyway
