I would definatley reccomend anyone to stay at Hotel Maxim! It is extremely good value for staying right in the center of Florence. It is clean, well run by helpful staff. A continental breakfast is also included in the price. Florence is full of fabulous shopping, so spend the money you save on finding that special leather item!!

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms that does not face the main street. They are quieter

The location was excellent, the room clean and comfortable.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast good. A room that faces onto the street can be noisy an interior room would be quieter. Very good value.

Room Tip: Ask for an interior room that doesn't face onto the street

This is a two-star hotel, so don't expect posh ... but our experience was great. Terrific location (in the heart of all the attractions, outstanding staff (very welcoming and extremely helpful), and well-kept rooms. And the hotel is filled with art ... in the rooms, in the hallways, in the breakfast room. We had a delightful time. We originally had reservations for only one night ... instead came back later in our trip to stay 3 more nights. Very good value.

Upon entering the hotel from a busy street, more crowded with pedestrians than cars, we walked down a long hallway to a tiny elevator which barely fit two people and their luggage. The hotel is on the second floor of the building with a lovely but small lobby. Helpfulness of the desk staff varied. The room was so tiny that there was nowhere to open the luggage except for on the bed. The bathroom was long and narrow with a shower stall I cringed to use as there was mold on the tile and the shower curtain. I found myself wishing I had some flipflops to wear in there. The breakfast was fairly good by European standards, a selection of yogurt, cereal, juices and breads. They also had 3 computers in the lobby with free internet access, which was nice.

What this hotel had going for it most was the location; central and close to all major attractions, which was great. However after staying in Venice in a 3 star hotel (which is basically like 2 stars American), we could really tell the difference between that hotel and the Maxim which is 2 stars (1 star American - does that exist?) Basic it was, which is ok, but the room should have enough space to move and accomodate living out of luggage, and the bathroom should be clean.

Room Tip: If you are just going for a great location, this is the place for you, as long as bathroom mold and cramped quarters don't bother you.

We picked Hotel Maxim based on the reviews and we were really shocked when we arrived. Our room and bathroom were extremely small. The bathroom door did not open fully because it hit a piece of furniture and there was barely room for our two suitcases. The hotel is not all on one floor as one reviewer stated. We stayed on the second floor which could only be accessed by stairs. The breakfast was average and it was the only hotel that did not offer some type of meats or cheese. The location is very central but a little too touristy for us. I would recommend staying a few streets over so you could walk to the tourist spots but not be in massive crowds every time you walked out the door. The people were very nice and the hotel was clean, but definitely the worst hotel we stayed at on our trip.

One thing that did bother me that no one else mentions is that the room key was attached to a paper weight type key chain and you had to hang it on the wall in the lobby every time you left. There were many times there would be no one at the desk or in the lobby so it seemed that if someone wanted access to your room they would have no problem getting to it. Our hotel in Rome had the same policy but the keys were stored behind the desk and there was always someone there to take it and give it back to you.

Room Tip: Room 15 is tiny
