“Magnificent, welcoming, warm!”
Reviewed 3 October 2012 for a stay in September 2012

We are 4 adults from the U.S. and stayed one week in Mid-Sept. The apartment is affiliated with Hotel Bellesguardo, and is purely beautiful and magical. The entire walled & gated facility sits high atop a hill overlooking the City of Florence, yet is a walk or just a few minutes via taxi from city center. The views are unmatched, the facilities wonderful including their own vineyard, gardens, farm animals, and of course a wonderful swimming pool. Be sure to allow some extra time to spend with the owner, Amerigo, who is a delight.

We highly recommend Casa Rosa, and hope to return ourselves.

“The most amazing view and location”
Reviewed 24 September 2012 for a stay in August 2012

The views from the pool, garden and our terrace were simply amazing as we looked out over Florence. When we arrived the combination of the building and the painted ceiling, the garden and the views almost, but completely silenced our teenage daughters. The classical gardens are beautiful and well worth looking around in some detail. The pool area was surrounded by roses and had the picture postcard view of Florence.

We also enjoyed the animals, cats, donkeys, parrot, chickens and pony; all friendly! We walked into Florence via the gardens and the olive groves on several occasions although it was too hot and too steep to walk back. The roads up to the hotel are very narrow, however, it is worth the effort.

Service in the hotel was good and very helpful and all in flawless English! it was lovely to have fresh flowers rom the garden placed in the apartment for us.

We would definitely stay here again. One thing which would help would be to have a welcome pack on arrival with milk and bread, tea etc as depending on arrival day and flight times etc it can be difficult to shop on the way.

“A welcoming and historic mansion in an extraordinary location”

Most of the reviews talk about the views and the history of Bellosguardo and there is no doubt that both are extraordinary. But we thought a practical review would add something.

We stayed for 10 very hot days in August in Casa Rosa, a self-catering apartment attached to the Hotel Torre Di Bellosguardo. Bellosguardo is a peaceful and relaxing place on top of a hill overlooking Florence. The apartment is up a few steps from a courtyard with a fountain. It has a large terrace with an adjustable awning, table and loungers which looks south over a lovely pond in the garden and then out over the Tuscan hills. The apartment has two bedrooms each with air-conditioning and each with a modern and very clean bathroom. The kitchen and lounge area also has air-con and a comfortable sofa and chairs, 2 fridges, washing machine, dishwasher, oven and hob and a TV with Sky in English. There are cool stone floors. All the windows have shutters and fly screens. Together with the plug-in fly killers we bought, we weren't troubled by mosquitoes inside the apartment. Overall, the apartment is charming and simple and has a slightly faded and well-used feel which we liked very much.

The Hotel with its grand and ancient rooms is a few yards away through the courtyard and stone arches. The buildings are surrounded by a huge and verdant terraced garden and there is easy access to the pool and the rest of the hotel. We were adopted by 6 cats and there were donkeys and a Shetland pony along with geese, hens and a parrot.

All the staff were utterly charming and helpful and shamed us with their excellent English. We felt very welcome and had the run of the hotel and its grounds.

The pool is about 80m through the garden from the apartment. It was a delightful feeling to look out at the Renaissance spread before you while wrapped in a damp towel. About 1.5m deep all over, the pool has a single ladder for access. Staff were there in the afternoon to provide drinks and cushions. We felt comfortable letting our 9 and 15 year old daughters use the pool without us being there but it would be a bit deep for non-swimmers.

It is quite a bit cooler than down in the city. We could walk down a couple of routes reaching the Pitti Palace in 20 minutes. The nearest small supermarket is in Piazza Torquato Tasso, about a 20 minute walk or we parked in the quiet piazza where Via di Bellosguardo meets Via di San Francesco di Paola. We also used the Coop Hypermarket in Scandicci which is about a 10 minute drive.

We ate out a few times, mostly in Piazza Santo Spirito which is less crowded than across the river.

The roads immediately around Bellosguardo and very narrow and winding but there is not much traffic.

“Absolutely beautiful stay ...”

Short version - Torre di Bellosguardo is a wow! Great location, friendly staff, clean pool, perfect base for your Florence trip. Kids (8&10 girls) loved the pool, the donkeys and the gardens. We enjoyed the ice cream, food and shopping down in Florence most evenings, 5 mins in a taxi.

Flowery version - OK, the roads were a teeny bit crazy as we climbed the hill over Florence, and our sat nav must have thought we were cyclists ... but when we turned the corner into Torre di Bellosguardo the entire family just gasped. Was that the whole of Florence we just saw on that corner?. As we pulled in front of the hotel we felt special. This feeling built as Mr Franchetti welcomed us into his Hotel, told us a little of its amazing history and then showed us to our villa located through the hotel and down a wisteria path. The pool, another gasp - blue, crystal, the path down through their fields to the gates of Florence, the topiary hedges, the trickling streams, the frescos our balcony view - photographers dream at 6 in the morning. I promise, its all a big wow. Amazing how quickly this becomes your reality as you wander round and discover more and more to this incredible place.

“Hidden Gem with amazing Florence views”

If you are looking for a break from the tourist flooded streets of Florence but do not want to be too far away from the action then the Casa Rosa appartment in the grounds of Torre Bellosguardo gives you the best of both worlds... you feel you are in the country but in actual fact you are only a short taxi drive to the centre of Florence.

This is the second time my family of 2 adults and 2 teenage boys have stayed in Casa Rosa. We returned to experience the amazing views, gardens and seclusion of the property as well as the Bellosguardo area which is quite local and not as crowded as the centre of Florence in Summer.

The apartment is located in the grounds of the Torre Bellosguardo hotel, which means we were able to use all the facilities of the hotel, including the large pool terrace with to die for views over Florenc with a much lower room rate!

The accomodation has a full kitchen, living and dining room with 2 bedrooms and bathrooms with a large balcony with extensive views over the Tuscan hills to the East of Florence. The accomodation is Tuscan country charming rather than cutting edge modern with all the required amenities. The accomodation is set in the middle of lush gardens with ponds and fountains so the mosquitos during Summer can be annoying but second time around we came prepared with insecticide - so no issue.

You can walk into the centre of Florence from the property but it is down a steep dirt track between olives groves and coming back uphill in the heat of Summer proved challenging.
The place has got a very homely feel as the Baron and Baroness who own the property live on site with their children and provide their local insight on where to go for great food, culture and local sights. We celebrated a 50th birthday with a special dinner prepared by the hotel on the lawns of the property overlooking Florence.

We had a wonderful stay and are looking forward to returning in the future.
