Most of the reviews on here are pretty accurate of this hotel , pretty basic , but clean and tidy , have to pay for anything extra , i.e. Fridge , towels for sun loungers and air con is €10 a day , although there is a good ceiling fan which was enough for us . The location is fantastic as your very close to town centre and the view from balcony rooms is beautiful. Breakfast are basic , hams cheeese, breads , cereals ect and dosnt change throughout the week . But it's sufficient. If your just looking luxury not gonna get it , but as a base it's fine . Tip if you near pool room 343 or 344 , very noisy with music ect . And the walls and doors are paper thin . So all in all a basic hotel with a fantastic view .

Hotel Splendid's very helpful and kind staff were fabulous. Every member of staff made us feel welcome, well-informed and went above and beyond when helping locate a lost wallet (which was returned to us by the end of the day NOT stolen) as well as a snorkel mask left at La Dolce Vita Lido (the food there was very good). I did wonder if we were probably the most trying customers, but the staff didn't let it show if we were. The views from our bedrooms were absolutely stunning and breathtaking over Taormina and out over the Ionian Sea. There were many house martin birds flying about feeding their young, which was particularly special. Everywhere we looked was like a picture in a film. I would recommend taking ear-plugs for a good nights sleep as the town is very lively all night, there is nothing you can do about this, but who cares when you have great views from the balcony. The hotel was well-kept and comfortable. The pool was clean, well-maintained and I loved the pools bar being set back within a cave. The bar maid was very good and hard-working. She made us Rossinis from scratch as well as cooking for a function elsewhere in the hotel (give the lady a pay-rise!). The breakfast was good with an extensive range of pastries, meats, cheeses, fruit, squash drinks (not juices). The only criticism was the coffee served at breakfast was awful! They did not do proper coffee - it was a kind of barley cup which I'm sorry to say was disgusting if you were expecting a strong Italian style caffeinated coffee. The cappuccino was palatable though. This is a problem I have which is small compared to the overall quality. So my constructive criticism/feedback is to serve REAL coffee at breakfast time. Don't play the same music everyday at breakfast and at the pool bar. Also, how about serving maybe a granita and brioche, true to a typical Sicilian breakfast? But it doesn't matter as the staff at breakfast were happy, kind and hard-working. Overall, this place to stay is absolutely lovely and the staff are fantastic. Thank you to all the staff at President Hotel Splendid for a memorable, comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Our children bought us a hotel voucher for Christmas; this was the most Southerly hotel (Europe-wise) that would accept said voucher.
Hadn't been to Sicily before so was excited about the location; was a bit ambivalent about the hotel but it was 'free' so no great concerns. Had a few email exchanges with the wonderful Maya and felt confident that 'arrangements' would be in place.
Initial impressions were of the level 'perfectly OK'. Room was OK, bathroom was OK - balcony and view were absolutely fabulous.
Breakfast was simple buffet but more than adequate - brilliant views again from the dining room.
Visited the pool area and the 'sun deck' on the 5th floor (chasing the sun) - both absolutely fine.
Arranged to check-out early on the Sunday to get our flights - no problem whatsoever in getting coffee and croissants to be available.

The key thing for us was that we were completely bowled over by the beauty of Taormina; so much history, so much to do. We wanted to be out from early morning to late at night so spent very few minutes actually awake in the hotel - to this end, why pay for a host of amenities that you don't use?
This is a genuine 3* but in an ideal location - as such it is incredible VFM. We will definitely return to Taormina and see no reason for not staying at President Splendid again.

Room Tip: Fifth floor, sea-facing are probably the best rooms but would suggest going for the cheapest room available and just enjoy Taormina

This hotel is very well located to the main Corso Umberta, probably 5 mins walk. Our hotel room was very clean. Staff were friendly especially Reception. The only fault we had was the breakfast was very very boring. We stayed 1 week and there was the same breakfast every morning. It would have been nice to have a variety perhaps every second morning.

Having never visited Italy, we were looking for some last minute sun in October before winter set in.
The short flight, easy transfers from airport and mild climate made our mind up, we were heading to sicily and the hotel Splendid, with its rooftop pool being the selling point.
Rooms were basic, but clean.
Staff were friendly and accommodating.
The location is great, with views up to the mountains one side, overlooking the sea the other side (easily reachable by cable car) and shops, bars and restaurants all a short walk away.
5 star it isn't, but neither does it claim to be, but it's a good, basic hotel in a great area that serves it's customers well and sometimes that's all you need (especially for just a 2 night stay).
I'd visit again
