We booked this hotel since it was extremely central: literally a ramp of stair from the main road of Taormina.
Also because it has carpark (not a lot so make sure you book in advance) even if you need to know how to drive very wheel in such a narrow lane (you drine in and must reverse to get out!!!)
The staff is very friendly and the hotel clean.
Let's say nothing wow or hyper modern but enough if you need a place just to sleep.
Few suggestions: there is a beautiful roof terrace not used and arranged (see the hotel near....) and the rooms would need some renovation.

Price high for what you get but.. It is Taormina!!!!

Well located walking distance from Corso Umberto a fantastic location in this wonderful Taormina. The hotel is clean and tidy - whist the rooms are well loved they are clean and spacious and comfortable. The Manager is a warm, friendly and hospitable man who was keen to assist and very approachable at all times. The breakfast room is warm and inviting and there was a good assortment for breakfast . We stayed the night as attending a concert at Teatro Antico and this was a great choice

Having read some references, the first thing I want to say is: when you book a two-star hotel, do not expect luxury. Villa Chiara is an honest two-star, a very sweet little hotel, clean and charming; there is an air-conditioner, a little fridge and a safe in your room, the rooms are cleaned daily. The breakfast might seem small at first glance, but you get a plate of cheese/ham/sausage + a basket of fresh bread on your individual table, AND fresh coffee to your liking. The location is perfect: you are right in the heart of Taormina, but a little way away from the bustle.
What makes this hotel a true pearl is the people working there! Naturally friendly and caring, helpful in big and little ways. Many, many thanks to them for making my stay so very enjoyable!

Room tip: The rooms overlooking the nearest scala can be a bit noisy (restaurant below)

I would strongly recommend this lovely hotel to anyone planning to visit Taormina. It offers a brilliant location with excellent hospitality. We received a warm welcome on our arrival and were able to check in early to our room - always a bonus. Hotel Chiara is situated on a small street just behind the main street of Corso Umberto - connected by a short marble stairway. The breakfast spread is amazing - wide range of fresh fruit, yogurts, juices, cereals, cakes, cheese, ham, boiled eggs etc with fresh baked pastries and bread served with coffee or tea 8-10am. The Manager/owner is a jolly, friendly chap, who can’t do enough to help. We booked a trip to Etna for our 2nd day and had to be at the bus station for 8am. Out of courtesy we told him we wouldn’t be there for breakfast, but he immediately said he’d make us a packed breakfast to take with us. On our ‘home’ day our taxi was coming at 8.20am. Again, no problem, he told us to go for breakfast at 7.45am. What a star! The staff in this hotel are wonderful.
I’ve read some criticism of the decor, saying it’s a bid sad in places. Yes it may be, but this hotel is absolutely spotless, and is clearly loved. Frequent changes of sheets and towels. Room cleaned daily. Some bedrooms on the front have small balconies overlooking the narrow street. Ours was on the side, on the 1st floor, overlooking the steps down to Corso Umberto. Sometimes it could be noisy if people gathered on the steps, but we loved getting the morning sun in our room and smelling the breakfast patries being cooked below us. Rooms have a fridge/mini bar (with reasonably priced beer etc) and a safe (€4 for our stay). We loved the rooftop sun terrace with fabulous views over Taormina and the Italian mainland, as well as the neighbouring bays and the western slope of Etna. It was great for relaxing in the sunshine whilst watching people walking up the 600+ steps to Madonna della Rocca convent, just above the hotel.
This hotel is a gem in the heart of Taormina. Strongly recommended.

Good value for money and very convenient for centre of Taormina. Good breakfast, very clean rooms. However, it is located on a noisy street with motorbikes constantly going up and down. Hotel rather dark and in need of painting and modernisation. Roof terrace needs some serious work! Fridge didn't work also.
