Our group of 4 enjoyed our tour with Sebastian. He is very knowledgeable about the cities. We were able to see and learn a lot throughout the day. We even had some time to ourselves to visit the shops and restaurants ourselves. I would definitely recommend a tour with Sicily Life Tours.

We are a group of 4 that recently went on a tour of Taormina and Castelmola with Sebastian. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and all the historical information that Sebastian provided us with. He took us to the most picturesque spots to take photos and showed us around. In Castelmola we got to try some almond wine in a famous restaurant bar in that town and it was delicious. We enjoyed our free time in Taormina and were able to get lunch, shop and dessert while there. I would highly recommend this tour to Taormina and Castelmola with Sebastian!

We took The Godfather tour. I was a little put off by the title as I had no interest in The Godfather. I was delighted by this tour. Alessandro picked us up at the cruise port and spent all day with us in Sicily. He was a delightful tour guide - showing us a Sicily that we have never had before - spending time in small villages gave us such a new view of old Sicily. He was flexible in his schedule and made sure that we got the experience we were hoping for including a wonderful recommendation for lunch. I would highly recommend this tour group and especially this tour for a view of life lived in the countryside of Sicily.

We travelled to Sicily for the first time in April and initially stayed in Taormina. As a great fan of all the books and films of Inspector Montalbano we wanted to see some of the locations of the films so we booked with Sicily Life on a full day tour. Our driver and guide was Santo, who even looked a bit like Inspector Montalbano. Obviously the films are shot in various locations mainly in the South and South East of the island so it was impossible to see all the settings in one day.
From the outset Santo was relaxed, stressing that he was there to make sure we enjoyed ourselves and he could adapt the tour to suit us if required. We were happy to let him give us a short history of Sicily as we drove towards our destination in the south east.
He was also knowledgeable about Etna and its eruptions, the origins of the Sicilian language and much much more. Given the 'hairy' driving of some Sicilians we were very glad to be in Santo's capable hands.
Our first stop was in Scicli where the police station (aka the town hall) in fictional 'Vigata' is situated. The old historic centre of the town is beautiful in its own right and worth a visit. We even popped into the cafe directly opposite the town hall where Montalbano often has an expresso and enjoyed the same. The great thing about being driven on this tour is that Santo could park in all the most convenient spots for a brief time to allow us to photogragh the location without having to worry about finding a parking place - which is very difficult in these historic towns not built for cars!
Modica was our next stop where the Church of San Giorgio, often featuring in the films is located. We enjoyed a leisurely walk along the main street which is full of the chocolate shops before returning to accompany Santo into one chocolate making establishment in particular: Casa don Puglisi to see how the special chocolate for which Modica is famous is made. We did a lot of tasting as well and ended up buying quite a few bars of their wonderfully flavoured chocolate! The lady in the shop who did the demonstration spoke in Italian but Santo ably translated what she was saying so that we understood the process.
Ragusa Ibli was our next stop. The old town has an amazing setting with lots of hairpin bends and tight corners to negotiate before getting to the centre. The Piazza Duomo, which is overlooked by the impressive Cathedral of San Giorgio, was the first stop - again this features regularly in the films. There were other settings to see there too but we headed for the public gardens which had lovely vistas and provided some welcome shade on an unseasonably warm day. At any time we could stop for something to eat or drink. Santo left us to our own devices to explore the town centre.
One of the highlights of the trip was the visit to Punta Secca (Marinella) where Montalbano has his house and goes for his swims. We managed to get some similar shots to those you see in the films by some careful editing out of pizza establishments on the beach! Unfortunately Enzos restaurant where the Inspector enjoys many a good lunch was still shut but we soaked up the atmosphere of the area.
The final stop was in the middle of the countryside at Donnafugata Castle and grounds where Montalbano meets the Sinagra boss on the terrace. It was interesting to see around the castle and its exhibits as well as the grounds where a few dead bodies had been found in the films!
Overall it was an interesting trip made more enjoyable by Santo's friendliness, courtesy and good humour.
We also chose to have Santo drive us to our next destination near Agrigento with as many stops as we chose to make along the way. Again Santo gave us lots of information on the landscape we passed through. One bonus of this transfer was that we passed near to Porto Empedocle which is the setting for the opening sequences of the Montalbano TV series, so we got another photo opportunity to add this to our collection of Montalbano locations. We loved travelling with Sicily Life and Santo in particular.
We can highly recommend this company and will remember Santo with great fondness.

Our guide was waiting at the pier to take us on our tour. We had arranged the tour with 3 other couples from our ship. During the drive to Taormina our guide, Antonia told us various things about the island and answered all of our questions. He took us to a small chapel high on the hill above Taormina with a beautiful view. When we got to Taormina, he dropped us off and gave us some insights on exploring the village. On a side note, the cannoli we had was the best I've ever tasted, We explored the ancient theater and the village for around 90 minutes. Then it was on to Gambino Winery on the side of Mt. Etna.
Gambino Winery provided one of the best wine tastings I've experienced. Plenty of nice wines and a very nice sampler lunch around a table for 8. It was a terrific way to spend the afternoon.
On the way back to the ship, we stopped in Messina so that we could visit the cathedral and see the downtown square.
All in all, a great day in Sicily. I would recommend Sicily Life Tours. They were easy to work with via email to set up the tour and did a great job while we were there.
