Great value for the money. Perfect for a family. The host is very helpful. I'd stay here again just for the beautiful ceiling. Bellissimo!
This apartment is excellent, we could not fault it in anyway. The owner was there to greet us, with a very warm welcome - including a very generous welcome pack of local goodies. The bed was so comfortable we slept in most mornings. The apartment was cleaned during our stay and fresh bed linin and towels were also changed during the week. Ample hot water, well stocked kitchen, loads of space and very quiet at night with the shutters closed. The location was perfect, 2 minutes walk to the four fountains, lovely street market just around the corner. Everything else in easy distance. Great place for a short break or even longer.
The photographs on TripAdvisor indicated the elegance of this apartment and, although we had the benefit of a location map we did not realise just how perfect the location would prove to be. Although we had been to Sicily before, we had never been in Palermo and it was a very pleasant surprise to find that the apartment on Via dell' Universitá was a minute's walk from Via Maqueda and Via Vittorio Emmanuele, both of which buzz with life. Shops, restaurants, bars, cafés and churches are all very close at hand. An enormous daily street market is within a short walk.
As the street address indicates, the University of Palermo is located there (well, at least the Department of Jurisdiction) and plenty of students throng the area. Another reviewer on TripAdvisor seemed to think that the area was not great but we would disagree with that strongly. It's just in a very old area of the city, with narrow lanes and cobbled street surfaces. We loved it.
We took the airport bus in to the central station and a €10 taxi ride (of maybe 5 minutes duration) from there took us to within a few yards of the apartment. We had spoken to the owner's representative, Francesca, by mobile while we were on the way and she met us at the door. She showed us everything about the flat and made several recommendations for places to go and how to get there.
The building is a renovated Palazzo of (I think) the 1400s and this apartment is on the first floor and has been very well prepared. The accommodation comprises spacious entrance hall, kitchen, bathroom and enormous bedroom. It's more than adequate for two people, but I must be perfectly frank; in its present format it would not suit everyone as a 4-person let. We asked Francesca where another couple would sleep and she indicated the entrance hall. Apart from the question of the entrance door leading directly into that 'bedroom', the users of the main bedroom would need to walk through the hallway to use the bathroom and the kitchen. It might be fine for a couple with 2 sub-teen children, but any other group would, in my opinion, be difficult. There is a staircase to an upper room, which was closed and unavailable to us. Maybe that room, which we believe to be currently being renovated, will complete the property as a 4-person let.
In summary, we greatly enjoyed this property, its equipment and its location. Thank you Salvatore and Francesca.
We've stayed in Antiche Dimore di Sicilia in April 2017 for one week. The apartment is perfectly located in the centre of Palermo very close to Cathedral di Palermo and other monuments. The appartment has everything for comfortable stay, very clean and corresponds to the description. They've also provided some snacks for breakfast, the apartment was cleaned once during stay, the towels changed.
Salvatore and Francesca welcomed us very warmly, they provided us with useful tips re restaurants, transport, what to visit around Palermo etc.
I highly recommend this apartment for romantic couples and families with kids.
This is a perfect place if you want a beautiful retreat from the bustle of Palermo. It is ideally located just a short walk to the Quattro Canti making it ideal for exploring all 4 quarters of the old town.
Chiesa San Cataldo, La Martorana and Piazza Pretoria and its famous fountain are encountered just metres away from the front door of the palazzo the apartment is in.
The apartment itself is beautiful especially the bedroom with everything you could need available including air conditioning.
We were given a very warm welcome by the Salvatore and Raffaella. Raffaella provided us with lots of useful information and advice. Highly recommended.
