We returned to Palermo & stayed at this hotel. However it has poor or mostly non existent wifi, the most frustrating that we have experienced of any hotel on our travels around Sicily. The hotel really needs to address this issue. Other guests experienced the same and were equally unhappy. Our devices work ok at every bar & venue around town. Very difficult when trying to make onward travel plans and contact family back home in different time zone. Rooms are rather small with a few annoying design issues that may look modern and funky but are not practical (eg. bathroom basin that you can't keep water in to shave, little room for toiletry, very wide wardrobe door that can't fully open and hits bedside table & the safe is too small). We would probably not stay here again.

Dear Heather M,
thank you very much for sharing this review on your recent stay experience with us at Hotel Principe di Villafranca. We are sorry that your experience was not fully satisfying, mainly because of some real big difficulty with wifi connection. What I can state with a view to this is that I am terribly sorry, as I completely understand that it is very annoying not to be able to keep in touch with home and consult the information you need on the web - of course our front desk staff is available around the clock for every single request one may have - but as a matter of fact, wifi was 100% checked and made even more powerful just two weeks ago - with no further malfuctioning being assessed. The presence of firewalls and gateways for data security makes our connection safer than other wifis in the city, but also likely to occasionally have guests experiencing device incompatibility, which I am afraid was the case. We would like to thank you for highlighting those aspects of your room experience which did not meet your personal expectations, even if as you have probably have read from other reviews, there is a vast majority of guests who have enjoyed our room architecture and style. We would like to have a second chance to have you as our guest and have a new, improved stay experience with us! In the meanwhile I would like to thank you for your review and send you our kindest regards.

Stayed here for 2 nights at the end of April with my husband, sister and brother in law. The hotel is in an excellent location for exploring Palermo on foot and in a quiet area of the city with some lovely local trattorias within a few blocks.

The main guest areas of the hotel are modern, quirky and airy, however we were all disappointed with the guest rooms. All rooms are on the first floor and our room overlooked a side street so no view, but quiet at least. The sleeping area was large with a very comfortable bed, large wardrobe and desk area. The bathroom however was so disappointing. It was just too small and very poorly designed. There was barely enough room for a shower, basin and toilet never mind a bidet as well. Trying to squash so many amenities into the smallest of spaces just didn't work. It was claustrophobic and dingy. Awful.

Breakfast was ok - adequate for our needs but more choice would have been good. At times plates weren't refilled either which was frustrating.

Dear janeyjonesman,
thank you very much for sharing this review about your recent stay experience with your family - we are very happy that you enjoyed the location of the property and the lovely dining options available in this area! We are also very glad you enjoyed our common areas and also the guestrooms as far as bedrooms were concerned - also, please note that all rooms with city view overlook the street the hotel rises on, which is a quiet secondary street in the center of Palermo. We are very sorry the bathroom did not live up to your expectations in terms of space and would like to ensure that the average size of our bathrooms is nothing but small. Also, we apologize for the incoivenience experienced at breakfast: our service is usually very swift and prompt, and replacement of all available items - which are quite a vast variety - is normally quite fast. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to our property and hopefully deliver a fully enjoyable service and experience!
In the meanwhile we send you our kindest regards,
Giulia Briguglia

This is a beautiful hotel in the center of the city, close to restaurants, shopping, and historical sights. We were given a spacious room with King bed, well appointed.(It was a delux double room)
The hotel arranged for the 4 of us to be picked up at the airport so we didn't have to hassle Sicilian traffic our first night in town. They also arranged transport back to the airport after 3 nights to pick up our rental car.
We hired a guide for a 1/2 day walking tour to give us an overview of the city and to show us the main historical areas which worked out perfectly.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was outstanding and hours were fairly long, a plus after a long flight from the USA.

Room Tip: I would pay more for a larger room... much more comfortable.

What to say...there are few good things say about our stay here...the service was good, the lobby and sitting area is good, the location is ok and the breakfast is ok. That's about it. The single "superior" room (for one person), our 86 year old dad, was at best 6X8. The shower in his room was built for a toddler, thank goodness he is not a large man! The superior double (for two people) that we had (booked in early March) had no view, no shower head and lousy internet. The elevator is VERY small and antiquated. We'll be returning to Palermo but sadly we'll choose another hotel.

Dear Guest,

thank you very much for sharing this review about your recent stay experience at Hotel Principe di Villafranca. We are very happy that you enjoyed many relevant aspects of your stay, including our service, the elegant atmosphere of our lobby and halls, the prime location and fresh breakfast based on local produce.

We are very sorry to read your complaints about the rooms, which I reckon could have been avoided by a better awareness of the characteristics of our rooms, as very openly shared on all booking channels.

Superior single rooms have an average size of 15 sm including the bathroom, whose shower is of course large enough to fit an adult man. Upon your enquiry at check-in, we had provided a rate for an upgrade in a superior double room single use, which was refused. Moving on to the double room, we state on all booking channels that all rooms either have a courtyard view or a city view, like you had, on the street where the hotel is located, which is a quiet residential street in the centre of Palermo. The room you were assigned has one of the internet access points right in front of it, so it is very unlikely that any difficulty with the internet has to be attributed to the system itself. Moreover, the room has the typical Italian shower-bathtub combination, with a wall-hangable showerhead. The elevating platform that you defined antiquated and small is on the other hand the safest and most modern system that you might find in such a space.
We are very sorry that you have chosen another property for your future stay in Palermo, and hope that such property will suits your needs better than our own.
Of course, should you decide instead to give Hotel Principe di Villafranca a second chance, we will be more than happy to welcome you back.
With our kindest regards,
Giulia Briguglia

I have hesitated for a while whether to give this hotel an AVERAGE OR VERY GOOD rating. Several positives: location close to Av della Liberta, quiet location in general, room well equipped, bathroom on the smallish side but well organized, great choice of breakfast buffet. On the negative side: at breakfast the coffee is not up to the average Italian level: cappuccino has no visible or "tastable" coffee, the fitness is well furnished but the dust on the hardwood floor does not push you to put your hands on the floor. The personnel is very helpful and friendly and fixing these issues would move this hotel to "VERY GOOD".

Dear Axel8807,
thank you very much for sharing this review - we appreciate your very positive comments on the lovely hotel location, comfortable room, and amazing breakfast. I also wished to thank you for highlighting the two misses that would have made your experience absolutely perfect - I just wish to apologize for the dusty floor in the fitness room, the room was very densely used these past weeks, and tight guest training schedules must have lead our staff to mess up with the tidy-up schedule, and this most unfortunate result. I am truly sorry for this, and even more for the bad experience with our coffee, especially because espresso at Principe di Villafranca is very well known in the industry for being excellent. I will investigate and make sure neither of the two episodes happens again. I will be looking forward to having you back as our guest and verify that the two items have been fixed, for an excellent stay experience this time!
