“Brilliant - great location”
Reviewed 1 October 2017 for a stay in September 2017

A great apartment with a fantastic location, minutes walk from lots of Catania attractions. There are at least 5 bakeries nearby, we enjoyed visiting these on a daily basis. plus a small shop just down the road.

The apartment is great for 2 people, just one large room, with a well equipped kitchen and all you need for your stay, a bathroom with a powerful shower etc.

The garden is lovely, we really enjoyed reading in the garden and listening to the sounds of the city, including the sounds of church bells and Italian conversation. I would say that the garden isn't 100% private as it is overlooked by several flats, also if you are not a fan of cats this may not be ideal as there are many cats that gather in the garden, but they will leave you alone if you shoo them off!

The owner Rodolfo was very helpful, picking us up from the airport, giving local info etc.

We would definitely recommend this accommodation.

“Complete disappointment: Impossible to sleep in the appartment, because of a terrible gasoline smell.”
Reviewed 6 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

We have travelled for three weeks on Sicilly, staying in 7 hotels/appartments. All good experiences, except for this one:
Even though we had informed the man (Salvatore) who holds the key that we would arrive at 13:30, the appartement was not ready. First the cleaning lady came, she tried to tell us in Italian to come back at 15:00. We only wanted to put our bags and park the car, but the lady did not understand. We called Salvatore and he came to give us the keys and show the appartement. Allready at that time we smelled gasoline, but the room was not yet clean so we put our luggage there and left so that lady could clean the room. We came back at 19:00. The gasoline smell was even stronger and so terrible that we decided it was unhealthy and impossible to sleep in. We contacted Salvatore, all he did was tell us that he would inform someone and disconnected. First we thought he would call back and either offer a solution or give our money back (had to pay upfront). He did not and also not answered his phone anymore. We left and booked another hotel.

“A lovely apartment”
Reviewed 15 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

A lovely apartment in a quiet area. Very near a supermarket and walking distance to the centre and bus terminals.
Rudolfo the owner was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to make our trip easier.
The apartment is very well equipped and very clean.
And his mumma who lives nearby is very cute!

“Real life accommodation in downtown Catania”

When booking this accommodation, you may have a choice of the apartment or the studio. The studio is one long room that is featured in the photos but the apartment has a separate bedroom, kitchen, shower-room, and walk-in closet. The studio is quieter because it is not on the street but the terrace is very small compared with that of the apartment. We stayed in the apartment, which was good-sized, well decorated and furnished in modern style, and clean. The bedroom is right next to the street so you have Catania in your face from the early morning if you leave the window open.

On the other side of the apartment is the big terrace, which is very nice but not so private. Neighbours on the upper floors hang their washing to dry so you can expect neighbourly inspection and an occasional clothes peg from above! Most basic cooking, eating and drinking utensils are supplied and the stove is gas while the oven is a grill/microwave combi. Beware that dish cleaning detergents, soaps, shampoos, shower gel, bottled drinking water etc. are not supplied. However, towels and dish towels are provided (changed twice per week in our case). There is a small grocery store within 5 min walk but larger supermarkets are further away. The apartment lacked some items, such as an iron, and I’m sure if we had asked, these items would have been provided. WiFi was strong and stable while it lasted but was not available during the last 2 days due to some off-property issue.

Breakfast is one of the owner’s (Rodolfo) many business ideas in that he has an arrangement with a local café (about 7 min walk) where you exchange a voucher (5 Euros per person) for breakfast. Rodolfo instructs you to buy a particular speciality, but actually you can eat what you want and it’s included in the 5 Euros. We took to buying breakfast from the many bakeries as it was cheaper and very delicious.

If you have a hired car, you can park it on the street but if you choose the wrong location you will get a ticket as the parking police are extremely vigilant even in the late evening. Rodolfo will offer off-road private parking for 10 Euros per night, which is very steep but we chose to do that to avoid any complications, car damage etc. Driving in Sicily is exciting as you are never quite sure if the cars racing in from each side road are going to stop. I would advise taking out the damage excess cover for peace of mind.

Locks in Catania can be challenging and I rescued a poor tourist in another part of town that had got trapped for 3 hours between her hotel room door and the outer door without being able to open either. In the case of the A Casa Di Ludo apartment, we received instructions from Rodolfo on how to turn the key so that it unlocked. It requires a bit of Zen and skill but can be achieved with practice.

As for Rodolfo, he is full of Sicilian charm and eager to please. He provides an airport shuttle service for 15 Euros whereas the taxis cost about 20 Euros. A Casa Di Ludo accommodation is not luxury but is excellent value for money and it receives 5 stars for that reason plus the willing help and attention from Rodolfo when required.

“Sentral located and nice, roomy appartment with a beautiful garden.”
Reviewed 17 May 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Loved the place a lot - Rudolfo is an excellent host! it was a very special place - very pleasant decorated, clean and you can find all you need for a short stay - we just had one night - came late and left early. A beautiful garden , roomy bathroom, little bit difficult with parking outside, but Rudolfo helped us to park our car in the yard. Safe. Just study directions to that place- we came in the darkness and did not find the place at the first time, but the rest is just excellent.
