Description: La Caravella restaurant in Venice can be discovered immediately behind the newly-restored La Fenice theatre, just a few paces from the Piazza San Marco. Stepping inside, you will feel as if you have entered an antique sailing ship, with dark wood paneling, capstans and ropes and leaded windows. In summer, you may not step inside at all as La Caravella moves into a flower-filled courtyard complete with original wells, or the lighter courtyard dining room with typical Venetian ambience. The menu is typically Venetian too, with dishes like classic saor, marinated sardines with onions, pine kernels and raisins, fish soup, or oven orast turbot with potatoes and olives. In addition, the chef uses fresh seasonal ingredients to create trendier fare. The excellent wine list features both historical wine producers and smaller boutique vintners. Planning a party? La Caravella welcomes wedding receptions, private dinners, banquets, corporate entertaining, even coffee breaks. The garden seats up to 65 and one of the dining rooms up to 75.

Recommended by our hotel and didn’t disappoint. Fantastic food and service in a lovely atmosphere. Not the cheapest but for a special occasion it’s perfect. Going back again tomorrow evening.

We ate there one night. The food was good as was the service. It is a big restaurant, and I found it too impersonal, but my meal was good.

The wait staff is so condescending and unwelcoming. It’s like they are doing you a favor to wait on you. The food is mediocre at best. Thin sliced potatoes means potato chips. At those prices you should get real potatoes.
There are so many good restaurants in the area, don’t waste your time here.

We had lunch at this gem of a restaurant. You walk through an ancient through-way into a beautiful garden setting with a bar and tables. We loved the food and the service was impeccable. My wife and I shared each of the dishes of our 3-course meal...which was perfect! Just enough food for lunch. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a nice place to eat authentic Venetian cuisine, albeit more expensive than the many cafes in Venice (but well worth the price!).

We were pushed here by our concierge, and although it was not a bad experience, it certainly was not particularly memorable, aside from the beautiful space. We generally search out more local cuisine, and while the food was reasonably well-prepared, this is definitely a destination earmarked for American/British/Asian tourists staying at the high-end hotels. The open-ceiling courtyard is lovely on a nice night, and the food is not objectionable, but is it not where you want to go if you are looking for world-class food or an authentic experience.

Dear Mollie N,

I would like to thank you for taking the time to write us your comment.
Thank you for choosing our Restaurant for your dinner but I am very surprised to read that your experience has not met your expectations.
The Restaurant takes part of our Hotel Saturnia & International, it has an important and historical tradition and since its origins, the staff works enthusiastically to give the clients an unforgettable experience.
Every day, the Chef selects the best raw materials available in the local market: the high quality of the ingredients that we offer in our menu is our strong point that allow us to satisfy the international guests and the Venetian clients.
He is very attentive to create the plates with care and refinement, always prepared in the expressway.
Thanks again for your feedback.

Best regards
Gianni Serandrei – Owner
