Stayed at the Ai Reali in early November 2016 for 8 days. Some 15 years ago we stayed in a Hotel on the Grand Canal with a room with GC view; although we enjoyed the previous hotel we didn't appreciate the noise from the GC. Now, we wanted a quieter location for anniversary and birthday celebration. We chose the Reali because of the Trip Advisor reviews and ratings and the location. The Reali is centrally located in Venice, a <5 minute walk to the Rialto and 10 minute walk to San Marco, located on a small canal and away from heavy tourist foot traffic, If you need to take a water taxi from /to the airport there is a entrance on the canal. (Be aware arrival/departure before 10:30 A.M. may not be accessible at the hotel due to tides/high water and or local service boats. Our departure water taxi had to be from the Rialto near the water bus stop due to tides). The Rialto water bus stop is easily accessible <5 minute walk.

We given room 305 which was a large Deluxe room overlooking the canal (two windows) and very small campo (plaza) (one window), bed was very comfortable. This room also has a semi-private terrace accessible from 3 steps up inside the room. The marble bath was smaller than expected, but doable; wife did not like the hairdryer as she had to keep the on button push in at all times. On entering the room you have to put your room card into the card receptacle to turn on the lights, including outlets if you plan on charging your cell phone, etc. while your out or at breakfast. The only negative, which others have reported, is how late in the day the rooms are made up, we would return at 1:30-2 P.M. to rest after walking all morning and the room/bed still had not been made up; also, turn down service was late. Turn down service also included closing the exterior window shutters and blackout drapes. Breakfast was satisfying, but we have had better, breakfast service staff are excellent.

Yes, we would stay at the Reali again, and hopefully will return soon. We had no issues with desk staff and any request was promptly addressed

Directions from Rialto: From the east side of the Rialto bridge proceed down the steps straight to the Campo S. Bartolomeo. turn right and proceed a short distance to the Disney Store on the left, just past Disney turn left and walk the narrow street (Calle d. Stagneri (?) continue until you cross the small canal and hotel is immediately on the left.

We have just had a long weekend staying at this wonderful hotel. All of the staff made us feel so welcome, from the reception team to the bar and restaurant staff. They arranged a gondala ride for us which picked us up from the hotel, we had dinner in the restaurant which was amazing. We stayed in the luxury suite which was the most beautiful room with a balcony over the canal. We were sad to leave and hope to return again.

Venice , the city of romance , turned out to be the city of nightmares for me when I paid it a visit in the fourth week of November 2016. I visited several European capitals (Paris,Amsterdam ,London,Berlin, the Egyptian capital, and New York..) , and Venice is by far my worst experience.
Tha nightmare started at the airport, especially with the behaviour of some of the airport security staff. Their extremely grim faces , discourtesy ( not to say disrespect ) to foreigners, aggressive way of doing , use of Italian (after having made sure that you don't speak it ) to give instructions about YOU to their colleagues to control you inside out just because you remarked that you needed plastic socks when they asked you to take off your shoes, or cream when they asked to do the same to your tight bracelets ; you are given CRIMINAL treatment even if your passport says that you have both family and professional status that make of you the most decent person in your country of origin. There was nothing romantic about the airport of the city of romance.
The hotel ( Ai Reali ) was another story. Like any other standard hotel, it was clean and tidy. But unlike any other cosy hotel, it was cold in terms of human interaction and variety. The breakfast was shockingly monotonous ; the same menu the whole week through. Housdkeeping was disastrous , and you had to do with the same sheets AT LEAST two nights. On our last day at the hotel, we had a phone call at 9am asking us to leave the room at 11am , or else we would be charged €50 any additional hour we would stay beyond 11am. When we checked the hotel literature. there was nothing of this policy.
Venice , the city , was another story. You are surrounded by almost hostile faces ; no one smiles ; no greetings in shops ; no assistance; no 'thank you' when you pay ; rude attitude ; you literally feel that you are being used ; all they want is your money, and after that you go to hell ; there was nothing romantic about the city of romance.
The restaurants' menus are not authentic ; you don't pay what you read ; there is always something extra ; they always find a loophole to make you pay more, and the explanation and justification are always ready. Without money , big money , the romance converts into a shock , the shock of your life.

Venice is a beautiful city and this hotel was a fantastic base.

The room was immaculate and well presented the staff were friendly and helpful. But best of all the food was amazing and the chef did everything he could to accommodate our needs.

I can't recommend this hotel enough

Perfect for a couples weekend. Very central (2 min walk to the Rialto Bridge), quiet, clean with friendly staff. Excellent breakfast with Continental and English options. Good value for money and highly recommended. Time your arrival right and step off your water taxi in to reception.
