Had read a review in the paper that showed counters full of food etc.
Got there - no food on display just the menu to order from.
Ordered mussels and mixed fish as two dishes to share.
Mussels smelt pretty strong and were cooked in water.

The mixed fish was 90% raw and really odd.
Two circles of bland raw fish - one pink one grey .
A prawn
Some tepid mini calamari and the these grey/ White Sea maggot type things - again raw. When we moved one it had yellow stuff underneath.

Wouldn’t have minded a heads up when ordering from the guy who spoke perfect English but was more interested in the American teens behind.

Just a really odd and quite funny experience

Strolling through the quarter after a magnificent gondola ride with Frank, we came across this little restaurant, which had been recommended. As soon as we walked through the door, we were greeted with by-play by the host and hostess; he flirting, she getting cross and then them making up, all in between serving delightful food, tasty wine and dancing to tunes on the radio. There is nothing fancy schmancy about this hidden gem, it is just fun, with great food and characters t who could amuse you for hours. It would have been easy to remain here for hours, especially as the wine was 1 euro a glass and tasted divine but there was more of Venice to see, so we reluctantly waved goodbye but not before being photo bombed by the host - loved it - Do go, you will have a great experience.

The Osteria Ai Osti was recommended to us by locals and is located in a quiet courtyard off the bustling Strada Nove…between the train station and the Rialto Bridge.
A typical Venezian place with lots of local specialties, seafood and pasta at affordable prices and popular with locals.
The two glasses of wine we had was less than €5 and we had one of the house specialty from the à la carte menu, a mountain of deep-fried fish and seafood for €14. The portion was enough for the two of us and we shared.

If you drop-by between 12pm-12.45 you can try the menù operai (workers menu) for €12.

Randonly wandered into this cosy corner restaurant and were delighted with what we found. Locals were all having a quick lunch and were happy to chat to us over huge plates of Spaghetti alle Vongole! The guy serving us was funny, fun and friendly and there was even a cute pet dog to chat to! If you want something authentic, a bit different and fun, then look no further!

On our last day in Venice we wandered into this hidden square and found Osteria Ai Ost.
We sat outside overlooking the small square, sun shining, listening to the locals move in and out of the Osteria. It was bustling but not hectic. Everyone knew each other and the atmosphere was friendly, open and relaxed.

The spaghetti alla vongole was perfect. Simple, tasty and with a good serving of vongole. My partner had the spaghetti all scogliera - muscles, vongole and prawn. Also delicious!
We shared a couple of plate of cichetti from the counter and a few glasses on wine. And all of it was under €30!

Great value, lovely service and delicious food. We would definitely return!

It was wonderful
