This excellent intimate hotel has a wonderful combination of position and environment for our stay of four nights in February. We had a very comfortable room with canal view onto the small but active San Rio. Room had all facilities and well fitted bathroom with small bath. Very clean and room servicing faultless.
Breakfast(no evening meals) was extensive and included everything you might possibly want, with attentive staff.
Local area quiet but just right with plenty of possibilities, especially for us the bacari on Rio San Trovaso.
Plenty of local sights and shops including the Salute and gondola oar workshop!
Transfers good with water taxi to the door and Alilaguna to Ca'Rezzonico. Vaparetto stop at Accademia very close.
But what was OUTSTANDINGLY was the hotel reception response to me leaving my iPad at airport security. Yes stupid I know, but the tray was black and so was the iPad case and I was distracted. Realising my mistake back in the UK the airport lost property were formally helpful and could confirm they had it, but could not pack it or help with courier issues easily. Slightly in despair contacted hotel repception who, no problem, arranged a water taxi pickup, back to hotel with the iPad, packed up and efficiently communicated with courier.
So as I write this review on said iPad, thank you to Marco and Alberto for a remarkable response to my crisis.

The hotel is located just a few "calles" from the Academia Bridge on the Grand Canal. There are plenty of restaurants and shops in the area. The rooms are somewhat small but very well appointed. There are some with balconies with a view of the smaller canal in front of the hotel. I have to say the service is outstanding. By the way, you have to leave the key at the front desk when you leave. You will probably want to ... they are quite heavy. Highly recommended.

Room tip: Ask for a balcony room

When we arrived it was about 7pm and dark. The hotel the prettiest we had passed from the outside and was warm and spotless inside. It was easy to find and as we found out later in a superb position to explore Venice. Reception was friendly and booking in was simple and quick. Our room was warm and typically Venitian. Breakfast provided a selection of food from scrambled eggs, cold meats and smoked salmon to cereals, croissants, rolls and cakes, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed there for four nights and enjoyed every minute of it. I feel I should say something negative just to show that I am able to be critical so here goes - there wasn't much room between the dining tables. Then again it was a means of easily chatting to other guests if you wanted to. This is the third visit to Venice and each time to a four star hotel but this was the best by far in comfort, cleanliness, facilities and value.

We just got back from a wonderful stay at Hotel American Dinesen. It was perfect! We stayed in a room with a canal view and it was beautiful - the views were gorgeous and everything was high quality and very clean. The staff were amazing! So helpful (making recommendations and booking restaurants for us). Breakfast was delicious and amazing range of options - definitely worth it! The best thing was the location - still easily walkable to the Rialto bridge and St Marc's Square, but a lovely, beautiful quieter area, next to some lovely bars and restaurants and with brilliant views. We went in February and because we were staying in a less busy area it felt like you had Venice to yourself, which was amazing. Highly recommend! We'd definitely go back
