The Hotel Americana Dinesen Venice has everything a traveling tourist wants and needs, from the friendly well educated and professional staff at reception to the ladies that maintain your room and breakfast I cannot speak highly enough of them.
I was searching for hours and was very lucky to have chosen this one.
It is in a very good area of Venice out of the husse and bussle but only a short walk away from it, the Accademia water bus is a few minutes walk away there is a seccure ATM machine near by also a supermarket if you need it is about a 15 minute walk away.
The room isn't large but efficient and has antique style furniture which blends in beautifuly with the area, the air conditioner is awsome along with the free in room Wi-Fi
There is an out door area at the end of the first floor where you can enjoy the sun and have a few drinks or smokes, the view isn't breathtaking from here but who cares serves a purpose.
I am sure there are other very good hotels in Venice but this one will be very hard to beat.

Room tip: Ask for a room at the back on the first floor if you are a smoker.

First of all, I can't imagine why anyone would not stay in Dorsoduro. As many others have stated, it's away from the main crowds and quiet, but a short walk and/or vaperetto ride away from any place you might want to go.

If you're staying in Dorsoduro, this is an excellent choice. We spent 3 nights in Apartment 1 next door, and I wish we had booked it for all 5 nights. It was spacious, clean, comfortable, had all the kitchen accessories one would need, and I enjoyed goint to the market and buying food for breakfast. Since it was booked for our last two nights we moved to a canal view room as we had originally planned. It was clean and comfortable and had great views. The breakfast had a lot of variety and was good. The staff was welcoming and helpful.

We loved the location - a quiet canal, a bit off the beaten path, but very close to St Mark's, the Zattere, museums, and Vaporetto stops. The hotel is charming, and the rooms were perfectly appointed, well-laid out, quiet and meticulously clean. The bed was comfortable. Marco and the other front desk staff were unerringly helpful and provided great service. My son left behind a game, and the hotel offered to ship it to us at no charge to the US.

Read so many reviews of hotels in Venice - and this place exceeded all I read.

It is a great hotel outside of San Marco square - and at first I wasn't sure if that was a plus or negative. It is a huge plus. First off - it only takes 10-15 to walk to the square and the small canals and walkways enroute are the highlight anyway. Secondly - while many restaurants and hotels are around San Marco - it is extremely high traffic and noisey at all times - picture being in the middle of Times Square. We were so happy to be a few minutes outside of the giant crowds (realistically you are never that far from the crowds in Venice - but at least at midnight you can enjoy a glass of wine on the canal in peace).

The service was unbeliveable - the apartment they provided us exceeded anything we had read, and the staff were helpful and courteous at all times.

Upside: Location ( after visiting Venice, I would believe this to be the optimal location for anything other then college-party type tourists), rooms (spacious and clean), staff (very friendly), value.

No report: didn't try the breakfast

Negatives: None really, would absolutely be the place I stay in Venice if I ever return.

Room tip: Some rooms and/or apartments face a fantastic canal - not sure how many, but a great view.

We've just spent 4 nights at this hotel in Dorsiduro and if we return to Venice, it's where we would definitely stay. The location is ideal--a 15 minute walk to San Marco but in an uncrowded lovely location. Our corner room was attractive and quiet. It had 3 balconies from which we could see not only the canal where the hotel is, but also BOTH the Grand Canal and the Guideca Canal. Breakfast was nice and the service in the hotel, especially the concierge desk, was helpful and knowledgeable. And, the air conditioning worked very well and cooled the hotel to a very comfortably cool temperature, while it was in the 90's outside.

On our first trip to Venice years ago, we stayed at the Monaco, close to San Marco. The American Dinesen has much better rates and is a much better value.
