The residence is an old palazzo so you get a taste of the real city. Charming and old, well furnished in an elegant, antique style, you feel like you have met the real city. Sadly like most of Venice it needs some work.
On entering the apartment it smelt like it hadn't been occupied or aired for years. It was on two floors, the upper with bathroom and bedroom is reached via a narrow, steep and twisty staircase. Impossible if you aren't fit and able. Mind you, it is 50+ steps up to the entrance from the street with no lift. So if you have trouble with stairs, you won't make it as far as the room.
Also like the Venetian Republic, the administration is byzantine. The building is split between two operations - an hotel and the residence. The two don't work together so it might look as though the reception would help you, but they don't, It might look like they offer breakfast, but that is for the hotel, not the residence.
Only a short walk from the railway station and situated on a quiet canal, this is a perfect location.
Would I go back? Maybe, I'm not sure that staying in anywhere more modern would give the taste of the city quite as well.More
