My partner, Mick, and I stayed at this hotel recently, i.e. over New Year week. It was our second visit to the hotel as we'd also been guests during Feb half-term in 2017. Although we were not that impressed with some elements of the hotel last time, the location was what encouraged us to stay there again. And it was certainly a good decision as, on our return visit, we were delightfully impressed with the improvements already made by the new management, who took over the hotel in early December 2017. The manager, Massimo, was warm and friendly, and the staff overall were excellent. The hotel has had a makeover outside, but the main improvement by far was in the restaurant where the food was excellent (unlike last year when it was really very 'hit and miss'). We could not fault it - the quality was very good and there was a lot of choice, to suit all tastes. If anybody says otherwise (as I believe some have), then we seriously think that they have no taste!!! We always looked forward to the anti-pasta which consisted of so many delights, including oysters, parma ham, quality cheeses, octopus, sundried tomatoes, mixed peppers, squid, and many other delights. Thereafter, there was a 3-course meal which was sometimes buffet style and sometimes not. Either way, it was delicious and often more than we could manage, sadly! The restaurant staff were extremely on-the-ball, doing their job efficiently and silently (often removing our empty plates so quickly that we didn't even see them) and both the chef and sous-chef were excellent. The lounge area is fairly basic, but it is certainly adequate enough with soft, comfortable sofa-style chairs in which to relax after a hard day's skiing. The area is also not too big and not too small, enabling people to get to know each other, have a game of pool, etc. during their stay. The bar staff (namely, lovely Bianca and 'Tana') were excellent and certainly made our stay a delight. They always had a smile and a chat, and made us feel very much at home, 'regulars' in fact! Our room was adequate, albeit it was at the rear of the hotel and we would've liked to have a view of the slopes at the front which we would ask for next time! Also, power points were limited. Nonetheless, it was always clean and heated well and was sufficient for our needs. The spa area was also very welcome on occasion for our aching limbs and only costs 10 euro for the whole week, incl. gown and slippers. The hotel has it's own boot room, and one further improvement is that it now also has it's own ski hire facilities on site. That, together with the gondola being only yards away from the hotel, makes the location excellent - particularly if, like me, you struggle to carry your skis at the end of a day on the slopes! The only negatives are that the WiFi is extremely intermittent, the carpet needs updating, and, like last year, there is a bad odour in the lift area which appears to be coming from the drains. However, the new management have had, and are continuing to have, investigations into why this is, and it is obviously something they are very keen to rectify. Overall, we can say that, without a doubt, we would return to this hotel if we were to return to Cervinia.

Room Tip: A room at the front of the hotel will give you a good view of the slopes.

We had a great stay at Petit Palais over new year 2018. We had booked our trip later than usual, on a tighter than usual budget, so options had been limited and based on the rather uninspiring photos on the Crystal website we didn’t have the highest expectations but were very pleasantly surprised. The location, with the Plan Maison cable car on the doorstep, is an obvious selling point but the best things were definitely the extremely helpful and friendly staff and a lovely relaxed and sociable atmosphere. The food was varied, plentiful and of a good overall standard, with some stand out items such as the made to order omelettes at breakfast, the range of local meats and cheeses on the antipasti buffet and the superb beef wellington and tiramisu on New Year’s Day. The range of drinks on the all inclusive was limited but still very good value.

Our room was a decent size, clean and had all the necessities, particularly a very effective high pressure shower with excellent supply of hot water. The carpet and decor were in need of updating although the furniture itself was of a high standard that has aged and worn well (I think there is a rolling programme of room redecoration in progress). We had a mountain view room that definitely delivered as promised with a direct view of the Matterhorn.

The bar area was a great, relaxed space with excellent views and a good layout but the soft furnishings, carpet and wall art were an odd, mis-matched combination that really need to be improved to bring the hotel up to it full potential/former glory. The same goes for the bedroom corridors, but the dining room was very nicely decorated and the outside had clearly undergone a complete renovation recently so hopefully the other areas will follow (and Crystal will up date the awful external picture on its website to the showcase the facelift!)

The ski room was convenient and did the job but did tend to suffer from an unfortunate cabbage smell! The wellness centre had a good sauna and steam room but again the decor was a bit tired and the jacuzzi room in particular needs attention.

Overall it felt like Petit Palais had fallen on hard times for a while but is really turning itself round and I would happily stay again. The location, staff, value, food and atmosphere are all great and if the updating of the rooms and public areas continues it could be really fantastic hotel and a hard to beat option for ski holidays in Cervinia.

We stayed here over New Year 2017-18 and booked through Crystal Ski. The hotel was great value for money and perfectly situated near the gondola and bubble lift (50 meters). The hotel staff were very professional and helpful. The rooms were perfectly adequate and clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The bath is one of those small continental ones but it had a shower over and there was plentiful hot water at all times. THE FOOD was amazing! Massive antipasto buffet every night followed by a starter, main course and dessert (I loved the antipasto so rarely needed anything else. Breakfast was also plentiful, with the usual continental breakfast, fresh fruit, cereals, bacon etc. toast and omelettes freshly made by the chef to order.
We were on a fully inclusive package which included a lovely ciabatta filled roll, chocolate and water for our packed lunch daily, and cake was available at the bar from 4 p.m. Inclusive drinks were available between 4:30 - 10:30 p.m. served with a smile by the lovely Bianca.

The stair carpet needs renewing (it looked as if someone had spilled bleach on it).

Our best recommendation is that we will return.

Room Tip: Mountain view is a must

We stayed last week with Crystal Ski. As you may have seen on the news, there was a lot of snow, and the mountain was closed for 2 days.

Normally, we don't spend much time in the hotel so this really put things to the test! Overall, I would say that our stay was relatively OK. We were a couple travelling, however I think this may be more suited to groups of friends or families.

FOOD: Food was generally of an ok standard. We had the gala New Year's Eve dinner, which included oysters and prawns which was wonderful - all of very good quality. The anitipasti buffet changes every night, and has the usual mix of salads, meats and interesting bites. There's enough variety that you won't go hungry. The dessert buffet also changed each night with a selection of desserts and fruit. Breakfast was a mix of cereals, yoghurts, breads/pastries, cold cuts and a hot buffet of eggs, sausages, bacon, tomato, beans/mushrooms. There was also an option for omlettes fresh cooked, and fried eggs if you wanted them to be cooked fresh. At breakfast, you will also be given a peice of paper to make your selections for primi (pasta course) and secondi (meat course) if it is a table service evening. This was usually 3 choices in each section and included a vegetarian option. What I would say is that it was filling and did the job in terms of having dinner. Not the best we've had skiing, but was ok. At dinner, you will also be given a choice of breadrolls should you wish to have a packed lunch: ham and cheese, vegetarian or (another option that I can't remember!). They also provide you with two bottles of water at breakfast for you to pack in your bags to take up the slopes.

ROOMS: We stayed in a small corridor of rooms just up the short flight of stairs near reception. Could be noisy at times, but overall we had a good nights sleep. Rooms are ok - sparsely furnished. However the big issue was that there were not enough power sockets and none beside the bed! We were talking to another couple in the hotel, and they had sockets beside the bed. So I would say it's a bit of pot luck. The bathrooms were fairly spacious, and the shower had hot, consistent water which is what you want after peeling off the layers of ski gear. Be warned: NO wifi in rooms. In terms of servicing the rooms, there was an issue with toilet paper. 3 times we had to ask reception for more toilet paper, and it was only replenished on an ad-hoc basis. TV also has a few English channels as well which was good. Also, there is a sewerage smell that comes and goes. No mini-bar/fridge either. Safe in room worked fine.

SPA AREA: We didn't use it, but saw lots of people access the suite.

BAR: Being all inclusive, the drinks package is good value if you're there with a bunch of mates and enjoy a couple of jars after bashing around the slopes. Beer, wine, basic spirits and soft drinks are all included. The bar area itself is not too bad, a mix of couches, high chairs overlooking the ski lift and relaxing armchairs. There is also a foozeball table and a pool table.

STAFF: Staff were helpful and always had a smile which was nice. The lady at the bar also gave us a plate of chocolate when we celebrated our anniversary to accompany our prosecco which was really thoughtful.

WIFI: Now here is my biggest gripe by far. The WiFi was pretty terrible. Sometimes it would connect, sometimes it would connect and there was no data coming through. Best spot to get WiFi is in the reception area, but that can be hit and miss. As Mr Fromage had a bit of work to do while we were snowed in, this became a frustrating exercise to say the least. Also, the WiFi password had 24 characters!

LOCATION: Great location - 50m from the cable car and gondola that go right up to Plan Maison. Ski hire is also available through the hotel which made it dead easy to pick up and return.

CRYSTAL: Crystal reps couldn't be faulted in terms of providing information and doing their darndest to keep us updated while the mountain was closed. I have to say we were impressed by their attention to detail, and that they made themselves so readily available to us.

CERVINIA: Cervinia itself is a really nice place in terms of ski resorts. There's quite a number of really nice bars and restaurants, although a little bit more expensive than other Italian resorts. I've written a few other reviews as well of the restaurants. Recommend Tasty bar and Lo Copa Pan. Also Grivola for lunch.

SKIING: There's also a Crai supermarket about 5-7 min walk from the hotel as well. Skiing is fantastic in Cervinia, although the entire week we couldn't go to Zermatt due to high winds and lots of snow. So be warned! Also, just as an FYI - the ski away day with Crystal is in Pila. The thing is that if you are on the Area lift pass, you will have to buy a €39 day pass in Pila to ski there, however if you are on the local, Pila is included (go figure!). So make sure you take a look at the forecast as the Local Ski pass may be a better option if high winds are forecast and the link to Zermatt is closed (I think the local lift pass may include a day in Zermatt...anyways worth checking out!) Would recommend Pit Stop as our favourite place for lunch...€11 for handmade pasta that changes daily and is big enough for two if you pick up a couple of bread rolls to mop up the sauce. Also has the best toilets on the slopes hands down!

Anyways, I hope this helps. Overall we had an OK stay in Petit Palais. It won't blow your mind, but it depends on what you're there for. Happy skiing!

We visited here for Xmas week (our 5th year I think). The last 2 years the management were really starting to improve things but this year it had changed again and deteriorated considerably.

Pros
Fantastic location near gondala station.
All inclusive drinks
Staff really hard working

Cons
Breakfast - All food cold, including the hot buffet!!
Dinner - Weird selection of food - again mainly cold.
Xmas - no Xmas dinner or and Xmas music/atmosphere as in previous years.
Hotel smelt of sewers.
Took them 2 days to clean up sick outside our room even after we pointed it out to the manager and cleaners.... disgusting.
Not sure they put the heaters on in the boot room as our boots always seemed damp.
Bed and pillows lumpy.

Sad to say it but I think that was our last visit unless things change dramatically.
