Arriving on a wet and chilly early April afternoon, the staff at the front desk could not have been more friendly or accommodating. A first-time issue with our reserved room forced the management to move us to an equal room but at a substantial savings. The hotel is sexy and bold and sits in the shadow of the Duomo. Great breakfast, great bar, great staff! Molto bene!

I stayed one night for business purposes. The hotel was not as clean as I expected. I did not like the bathrooms. Everything was metal and the shampoo was awful. Omlet and fried eggs are extra during breakfast. The breakfast was not a four star hotel quality. I would not recommend this hotel

Dear Guest,
thank you for the time you spent writing this review. We take all feedback very seriously so to be able to review especially with regard the rooms’ cleanliness and the comfort of our guest that is a priority for us.

Please allow me to say that the whole Hotel design, including rooms and bathrooms design, is a far cry from standard hotel design as entirely created by the well-known Italian Architect Vincenzo De Cotiis, using refined and innovative materials such as split slate, burnished brass, concrete and iron, gauze-effect glass and aged mirrors. We are sorry if this style did not meet your taste and your experience was different from the expectation in terms of interior design and general hotel mood. We still do hope, in a not too distant future, to accommodating you on a different room type to show the hotel under a different light.

In addition we pride ourselves in promoting and applying several eco-friendly practices including the choice of ecologically certified cleaning products provided in specific refillable liquid soap dispensers ; however, we thank you for your advice that will be useful for any possible future modifications.

For what concerns the breakfast buffet, our tasty American breakfast cames always complimentary and – as you surely noticed - includes a rich selection of Italian products and a wide range of Certified Organic items. At the same time for any specific additional request, our chef is at the guests’ service in order to satisfy it. Having say that, we take in due consideration your comment in order to identify any possible improvement in our breakfast offer.

I do hope that you will grant us the opportunity of returning to visit us again in the future.

Kind regards.

General:
I stayed here for 3 nights as part of a group. The location is incredible – steps away from the Duomo and part of the complex that surrounds the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. This means it is super close to the Duomo metro station for connections around town and to the airports (2 stops to Cardona on the red line then the Malpensa express train, or a short walk to catch the 73 bus that goes to Linate). We arrived as a large group, tired and grumpy in the evening after an unexpectedly long 12-hour bus ride. The check-in process was very long, and the reception area was barely large enough to accommodate our group and luggage while waiting. In fact quite a few people were so frustrated with the queue that they went to the bar next door to wait. Free wifi throughout, however there is no “code” to login (despite the appearance when you try to connect) – you need to “sign in” using either Facebook / Google Plus / Twitter. I dislike joining wifi networks using social media logins, but there was nothing else we could do.

This is a modern art design hotel – the décor is pretty much black throughout. There is a fitness centre on the lower level but we didn’t have time to check it out (also the lobby toilets are on this level). Only one lift, so you often had to wait a long time for the lift to arrive. Fortunately there was a stairwell that wasn’t just for emergencies, so most times we used the stairs and used the lift only when we had luggage.

The breakfast buffet had multiple options: sweet pastries, mini cereal jars (pre-prepared), fresh bread with dips/toppings, a great selection of fresh fruit, hot things like bacon, eggs, dumplings, and some salad/cold meats/cheese options.

Room:
The corridor to the room and the room doors are all black with dim lighting. The key card is a proximity card you need to wave. The twin room was extremely generously sized. There was a large wardrobe area with in-room safe and slippers and dressing gowns. The mini bar fridge was stocked with items – no space for personal storage. There was a kettle which I used to boil water, except that there was some sort of funny residue at the bottom of the kettle that led to floaty things in the boiled water. Plenty of space to put suitcases on either side of the room, as well as bench space to sit or to re-fold clothes or do work etc. The room was WAY too hot. There appeared to be climate control on the wall, but despite continually reducing the temperature, this didn’t see to make any difference. It was incredibly stuffy and stifling and you only had respite when you left the room. Again, the room was “dark” with black fittings. There was modern art opposite the bed – a large mural that was leaning against the wall (rather than being hung) but it was so uninspiring that it was like looking at brown blobs of mud. No television.

Bathroom:
Whilst the bathroom continued with the “black” theme and LOOKED beautiful, it was not very practical or functional. The main wall is a huge mirror, which means when you sit on the toilet or bidet, you can see yourself – not ideal. The main basin was a large cylindrical stand-alone unit which looked great but there were several problems: 1) when trying to wash your face, it meant that there was significant splash back onto the mirror or onto the low bench, and because it was very high up, it meant the water dripped down my arms/elbows to land on the floor; 2) the bench beside/around the basin was close to the ground rather than being at a stand-up level. This was not practical for storing toiletries as you had to keep bending right down to pick up things; 3) if you wanted to put on make up, there was no real place to store items unless you took stuff off the small shelf next to the make-up mirror (unless you wanted to bend down to the bench each time for a separate item); 4) the rail for the hand towel was situated right above the toilet – which is not practical because you then drip your wet hands across the bathroom floor (and potentially drip over the toilet). So we had to hang the hand towel over the make-up mirror. The amenities are in huge bottles to save plastic for individual containers. No sewing kit.

The above-bath shower looked beautiful with its large rain-shower head, but it also wasn’t practical. But the position of the shower head half-way down the length of the bath meant that water always splashed over to flood a small section of floor – because there was no shower curtain or glass shield to prevent water spilling over. This also meant that there was nowhere to put the towel to keep it dry whilst showering – although there was a small alcove beside the bath that is presumably for the purpose of storing toiletries and a dry towel, the water overspray from the rain shower head also made this area wet! So we had to put the towel on the floor of the bathroom away from the shower/bath to keep it dry. It would be better to put the shower head at the rear of the bath so that the overspray is contained by the bathroom wall and doesn’t overspray onto the floor or the storage alcove.

So the look and design is sleek and the location is amazing, but I was disappointed the room was so warm and the bathroom had functionality issues.
