Having seen the pictures on the website I was disappointed with the room we had. It was functional and clean but very dated. Nothing like the pictures. That said the hotel is in a good position and the staff were helpful and pleasant. Our room was overlooking the side street which you would expect to be quiet but with the trams passing at the top of the street we could hear these right through the night making sleep more difficult
This nice hotel is situated between the city centre and the central station. Although the walk to the city centre is a little longer it can be done part way through a very nice park. Tram route 1 also runs by outside so you can catch that into the centre if you want. We found the staff very friendly and pleasant and our room, being a corner room was very spacious with a very smart large sized bathroom. The breakfast is very good with cold continental and some hot food can also be found. (Bacon and eggs for all us Brits!) More specific hot foods can be ordered at a price. It's kind of a boutique sort of hotel and I'm not sure it works all through the building. Certainly downstairs in the foyer and the eating areas it does but not so much upstairs where it looks a little tired. The only thing that vexed us in anyway was the lift we had to use each morning that was very reluctant to come up to our 2nd floor no matter how many times we requested it! It seemed to hover around -1 to the first floor. One morning we got so tired of waiting (despite requesting it several times) we used the adjacent fire escape stairs that were open. This though was our only real quibble.
Hotel is beautiful. Staff were friendly, kind and would do anything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Location is very good with an easy walk to Milano Centrale and close to main attractions. Would highly recommend staying.
My husband and I stayed in a superior room for 3 nights in May and our stay was wonderful
Main points:
Room was spacious and light - fantastic bathroom amenities
No noise from other guests and minimal noise from outside
Breakfast was continental - plenty bread, spreads, cereals and fruit
Bar service at night was always prompt and served with a smile and polite chat
Their garden (although not warm enough for us to sit out in the morning) was lit by fairy light at night, very romantic! There are even blankets by the door so you can stay out longer and be wrapped up.
Hotel is a 10-15 min walk from centrale station and there are metros are either end of the street so super handy!! There are also tram stops a few minutes walk away
Reception keep your key when you go out which I think is a huge bonus personally, the keys are quite chunky so less to carry plus less chance of losing said key!
Tourist tax for us was €5 per person per day and we paid on check out, super easy.
We would not hesitate to recommend hotel Sanpi to our friends and would most definitely stay again!
