“Good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2012

It's not like very wonderful but it's good enough. If you want to find something fine then Starhotels Business Palace can be your choice. The location is a quite far from the center but you can get there easily by the metro. The staff was friendly, the rooms are clean but old. The restaurant is good but too expensive, I'd like to suggest that u should go out for eating. Any way, I may want to try another hotel if I come back to Milan.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a 9 day trip to Lake Como and Milan. Indeed finding a hotel with our requirements at a good price in Milan was more challenging than normal, however with the use of Tripadvisor and google we chose this hotel.

The building is a converted industrial warehouse and has been refurbished to a high standard. Most importantly it has a Metro stop a minute away giving direct access in ten minutes to the historic centre of Milan and Metro stop Duomo. Given this hotel is on Milan's outskirts this is vital, however the hotel is excellently located given this Metro stop and we feel we were at no disadvantage as tourists staying here. Indeed it was nice being away from the hustle bustle if one can in this great City!

Our room was a standard double however was excellent. Largest most comfortable bed we have ever slept in, superb housekeeping, and a brilliant powershower. The bathroom facilities were top quality, and the complementary stuff very good and useful!

Buffet breakfast was exceptional, hot and cold selections covering meats, cheeses, eggs, cereal, fruits, breads, juices - perfect. Indeed we were so well stocked from breakfast we managed on ice cream in the afternoon until dinner! We were delayed on two mornings waiting nearly 20 minutes one morning queuing to be seated as it was Easter. The manager explained and apologised stating because of the holiday it was so very busy. Whether this is acceptable or not I am not sure, however he had without being stereotypical, the Italian hospitality character about him that you could nt do anything but like him! The complementary candy egg was a nice touch and appreciated.

The only quibble I would have, and this applies everywhere, is in this day and age, and in a business hotel, wifi in room should be free!

The hotel has a restaurant however we thought it was expensive so did nt eat there, however on the corner by the Metro stop there is an excellent Italian restaurant which we ate at. It specalises in fish/ seafood however the pizza/ pasta all appeared good.

We happily recommend this hotel without hesitation and will stay here again when visting Milan

Stayed on a business trip for 4 days

Rooms and facilities
The whole hotel has had a refurb, the rooms are excellent, flat screen tv, big comfy bed and well appointed bathroom. Little extras like the slippers, powerful shower were nice. Wi-fi was only free in the lobby and then it was not a great connection, you pay around £9 for 24 hour access in the room - a bit annoying in 2011 and at this class of hotel that wi-fi is not more widely available for free.

Location
We used the metro system throughout our trip and this hotel is located just around the corner from the Porto di Mare stop on the yellow line, about 6 stops to the Duomo stop, so very well located. The metro system is fairly compact so it is very easy to get around, I bought a 10 journey ticket for around £12.

Guests
We were in Milan for the Salone furniture show so the hotel and city were packed with a lot more tourists than usual, this was fine and the hotel coped well.

Food
We stayed on a b&b basis, the breakfast was standard European fare, not many hot options and the croissants were straight from a packet - there was just enough choice for everyone.

Staff
Reception staff spoke impeccable English which helped when checking in, the bellboys were also very helpful.

This hotel is a good base for Milan but we paid an extortionate amount due to the Salone fair and the fiddly wi-fi was a let down.

The staff couldn't do more for us. Even upgrading our room to an executive suite after showing us a 'twin' room that was actually a double.

Very good location for the metro and not that far from the centre.

Ideal for a nice weekend in Milan.

Stayed in the hotel for two nights, it was faaar from the city center but luckily metro was just around the corner. We checked into the smoking room (my wife a smoker, filthy habit!! stop smoking baby), the room literally smelled like ashtray even my wife the smoker was disturbed. We requested to move to a non smoking room on a non smoking floor and got a corner room which was sooo much better.

My wife told me breakfast was very good, though the staff was not attentive, she was quick to associate that to skin color. She told me there was a lady with a head scarf (a Muslim) who was practically ignored. I didn't have breakfast, I always chose to have longer sleeps, the bed was very comfortable by the way.

The hotel was a business hotel, lot of working people and few holidaying couples or families. It was clean and very well kept despite the aging building. They are still using old fashion key with heavy bulky chain, for a metropolitan like Milan (I can understand if it is in Venice or Florence) this is seriously outdated, they should change it to cards.

All in all it was a good hotel, I'd give it a 3,5 stars, not 4. Good value for money.
