“GREAT FOR SHORT STAY”
Reviewed 15 November 2011

Great hotel for short stay in Milan. Rooms a bit small but clean and tidy with good showers, anyway out most of day exploring. Great breakfast selection fills you up for the day. Good location for the Doumo and Metro. If going to the Last supper try buying tickets on the day at the church, we paid 10 euros each compared to 40 euro each on line, we had a Italian tour but the waiting room explains everything in English, great experience seeing the fresco. Went to the San Siro well worth a visit and reasonable entrance to tour and museam 12.5 euros each, but the museam needs updating. (no mention of Liverpool beating them in the final). Milan has extremes of cost ie an americano coffee 1 euro, a glass of beer 7 euro. Overall Milan is expensive compared to UK. Great city break lovely city.

Last week's trip to Milano brought me to Idea Hotel near Corso Genova / the Navigli area, which is a pleasant part of the city, walking distance to the heart of the center approximately 15 minutes.
The room interiors are from the late 80ies, I would guess. Room was functional and clean, but on the smaller side with no hint of luxury or cool design. With a room to the back of the house you could also open the window and not be bothered by any city noise.
What I really liked was the breakfast buffett - good selection, nicely arranged and the cappuccino was good.
Bottom line: it will not become my standard selection in Milan, but it's ok for a short business trip.

Room Tip: Get a non street-side room, the backyard side is rather quiet.

Great location! 10 Min walk from the city center.
The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful.
Rooms are very very small. We didn't even have the place to put an open luggage.
The hotel parking is very expensive (we paid 25 Euros per 24 hours), but when you see how people is parking in the city you realize there is no other option…
Elevators are small, but fortunately there is two of those…
Recommended, even only for the great Location.

Excellent hotel. Good breakfast, kind personnel, small, but clean and cozy rooms, and great location. Hotel is situated pretty close to the center, but in a very peaceful area. At the same time you can find a lot of delightful restaurants close to the Darsena canal. Personnel of the hotel has also taken into account our request to stay at the top floor, which offered a magnificent view on the Duomo. All in all staying at the hotel was a very positive experience, I would recommend it to all.

Room Tip: Top floor (6th or 7th) is the best option. Beautiful view.

Idea Hotel is situated in what seems like a quiet neighbourhood. My wife and I arrived at the hotel on Friday afternoon and finding the hotel was not difficult. It’s about 10-minute walk from San Ambrogio Metro station, Green Line. The staffs looked friendly but not helpful. We were given a black and white A4 printed map. They could have done better.

When we got into our room, we felt quite warm. We asked the reception if the air con was working. She looked surprised and asked if we pressed the correct button. Then she proceeded by saying that the air con will adjust itself to outside temperature. We found it difficult to believe.

In our three nights stay, Friday to Monday, the first two nights were a bit of disaster. The road in front of the hotel was not even the main road but it was packed with cars and motorbikes. Around midnight, people were shouting and they were obviously drunk. I can’t fault the hotel for this because that was out of their control. It’s just something to be aware of.

The lifts were very small. Looking at the buttons, they clearly showed which ones are non-smoking and which ones are smoking floors. We were assigned to a smoking floor and we were never given the option. The room didn’t smell badly, hence we didn’t pursue. However, when the cleaner came to tidy the rooms, she would go to the emergency exit to smoke. That made the corridor smelled badly as she didn’t close the door. At night, we could also smell cigarettes as the staffs smoked just outside the hotel’s main door. Our room was third floor and we had the window opened most of the time due to the ‘non-working’ air con and we could smell the cigarettes every now and then.

The room size was adequate. Shower was very small. There was no English channel at all. We were very surprised as the curtain was too short to cover the whole window.

On our final day at the hotel, we asked the receptionist on the best way to go to Centrale Station. We were told to get on tram 14. However, there were no trams or buses going direct to Centrale Station from that location. The easiest way was still going to San Ambrogio Metro station. We wasted about 30 minutes there by asking the people around.

Tram 2 and 14 go to Duomo while Bus 94 goes to the Metro Station if you don’t like to walk. Travel card covers all public transports.
