We got married at Villa Cipressi on the 6th of July. Coming from Australia and relying on photos and other various media to assist us in our planning decision we could not have been happier. The train ride up from Milan beside the lake had us excited like we were a couple of kids, the lake and small town on the way are simply stunning.

On arrival David and his staff at the hotel were just perfect, welcoming and completely accomodating in everyway, even booking a private boat cruise for the afternoon of our wedding as a last minute change (after seeing the lake we had to do this with our wedding guests). We stayed the week at the Villa and fell in love with the small town of Varenna.

We travelled through Italy for 3 weeks and can quite honestly say that we would have been just as happy spending the whole 3 weeks in Varenna and exploring the region and the lake villages from there.

All in all we would strongly recommend Villa Cipressi for a wedding venue or holiday destination and look forward to returning in the near future.

Room Tip: Make sure you get the deluxe lakeview rooms or if expense is no problem go for one of the two suites.

Villa Cipressi is a wonderful venue with breathtaking views and gardens and was where we had our wedding on the 1st May 2011. Our amazing wedding planner Fede (Federica Nascimben of the Italian Wedding Event) reccomended Villa Cipressi and took us there 2 years ago when we started planning our wedding, and we immediately fell in love with it !!!). The actual Villa has so much character and we have never seen such beautiful views and picturesque gardens.

Our wedding party and guests filled all of the rooms of the Villa and were all very happy with the accomodation which is older traditional Italian. Half of the rooms have spectacular views, and even some of the rooms which are 'non view rooms' have lovely views. All are comfortable and spoltessly clean. We stayed in the honeymoon suit within the main hotel (Suite "A. Manzoni") which was enourmous with dramatic views over the mountains and lakes and was perfect for photos before the wedding of the bridal party getting married.

We got married outside, then ate inside due to the weather being chilly in the evenings at that time of year, then danced outside later in the evening which was perfect. Our wedding planner Fede, and the hotel staff co-ordinated the move of people in and out of the hotel perfectly.

We knew the food at Villa Cipressi was amazing because we had eaten at the restuarant a few times before, but we were not prepared for actually how amazing the food was for the wedding !!! From the buffet before the main meals, to the main courses and then the dessert buffet ! There was so much food ! And it was all so delicious and beautifully pressented, we think it was one of the best things about the wedding. The guests kept telling us how lovely and delicious all the food was also.

The hotel staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. We had people of all age groups including elderly people and children, with many people travelling from Australia, UK and Europe, who all needed assistance with something and the staff could not be more helpful.

If you choose to have your wedding at Villa Cipressi, or even to stay there for a few days on a holiday, the combination of the views, gardens, ambiance, food, wine, people and staff and the character of the villa is something that you will never forget.
(Just remember to bring a travel iron !!!)

We stayed two nights at the Villa Cipressi and we thought it was magical. This is a historic villa, converted into a hotel, so rooms have ancient wood floors and floor to ceiling windows that close with antique wooden bolts - its all in keeping with the ambiance of the villa and we felt enveloped in that setting that matches so well the charming town of Varenna! I'm sure there were lots of rules about converting something historic into hotel property so you have to go into the experience wanting "an experience". This Villa occupies a premiere point on the lake with gorgeous courtyards and gardens and a lovely breakfast area, both inside and out. There were weddings at the hotel both nights we were there, which added laughter and festivity. We were never asked to leave the outdoor courtyard because of the wedding events and the staff brought the four of us 4 wine glasses and a bucket of ice on both evenings as we celebrated the view and serenity of the grounds. We found the staff to be accommodating, professional and quite pleasant. This was a perfect weekend for us and an easy ferry point to tour other lake towns.

Room Tip: ask for lakeview

My husband and I had our wedding at Villa Cipressi on May 31st 2011. This is truly the best venue I have ever been to, and all of our guests agreed. This is definitely a wedding venue and not a hotel you should stay in if you don't like the thought of seeing lots couples celebrating their wedding day, this is because the hotel offers the full civil ceremony, followed by a stunning 7 course meal, drinks, nibbles and drinks in abundance! If you are staying there and you are not involved with the wedding party you will be limited in the time you can spend out in the main courtyard area whilst this is taking place. However, you are not restricted from walking around the gardens as they are open to the public, we were told when we booked the venue that there could be people walking around - which didn't bother us at all (you would get this in any stately home/National Trust venue in the UK as well)! The staff were lovely, very accommodating and beautifully dressed the whole time. We had the most amazing day, if you are planning to hold your wedding at Villa Cipressi PLEASE DO NOT take any notice of the negative reviews, they have been written by people who don't like to see weddings/couples celebrating their special day. The hotel is three star because its an 18th Century hotel with very little modernisation which makes it very special and authentic, I have seen comments made about the room rates, I believe its because they don't really understand the charm of it, I also don't think they realise how many staff it takes to maintain the Botanical Gardens all year round, which again is reflected in the price. I have also seen complaints about the church bells which ring everyday - yes they do, and guess what you can hear them all over Varenna that's the whole point!!! The management in my opinion were very very good, I think when getting married somewhere like this, you need to respect the Italian way of doing things, weddings are very civil and family orientated so just keep this in mind - they will do anything they can to help you! This hotel has the best view on the lake (which is also what you are paying for) it is truly fantastic and will take your breath away. It was the best day of our lives and one we will never forget - Well done Villa Cipressi!!!!
