“Quiet, rural apartment with great views of Lake Como”

We stayed at Casa Alla Piana for 4 nights and were quite pleased with the accommodations. The apartment was clean, modern and had terrific views of Lake Como from the second floor bedroom. This apartment is about a mile outside the center of Bellagio in a small hamlet. You are not in a tourist area and definitely need a car. The owners also offer a parking spot in the hamlet garage for an additional fee and we found it was well worth it.

The location is on a hillside so if you walk into Bellagio center, it will be a tough up-hill climb getting back. We always used the car to get into the center. There are 2 grocery stores that are about a 5 minute walk from the apartment (down-hill getting there and up-hill coming back) via a great little cobbled pathway. Just be aware that the stores are closed most of the afternoon and open for the morning and late afternoon/evening only.

Pino and Antonella were great hosts and gave us tips on restaurants and site-seeing on Lake Como. They gave us a tour of their adjacent garden and we got a sample of their grapes. When we didn't have hot water the first night (the hot water heater switch had been turned off), Pino came right over and remedied the problem. Be aware that Antonella does not speak English and Pino speaks only a little. But we found we were able to communicate sufficiently.

One area of improvement that could be made is the WIFI service. It is slow and somewhat unreliable. I had to restart the router two or three times during our visit to get service back. Pino and Antonella also emphasize that video streaming is not really supported.

But if you are looking for a more rural, quieter place away from tourists and the city center, I would definitely recommend this apartment.

Stayed here for a week after 2 day stopovers on route in our classic car. The garage partially sold it to us, as the car is the other half's pride & joy. What a stunning setting. The owners met us on arrival, in fact upon texting them that we'd arrived, they came running down to meet us. They were very friendly & welcoming. Showed us everything & how it all worked. They left water, wine, some salad (from their garden), cleaning & washing products & various other things we may need. The place was spotlessly clean & fresh. They then showed us a map of the area & how to get to town, where the shops were etc. They were brilliant. Thank you Pino & Antonella. The rooms are all very spacious. The second bedroom is not at all private so would suit heavy sleepers best. The town was a steep cobbley walk down but only took around 20-25 minutes. The walk back after lovely food, wine & icecream was harder but well worth it. Casa Alla Piana is a superb place to stay if you don't mind walking.

“Amazing view”

We had a wonderful stay in this apartement for 4 days. You will be suprised how great the view is. Bellagio city center is not far away to walk - around 15-20 minutes. We enjoyed every minute of our stay.

“Excellent”

The apartment is excellent . The owner were at the ferry to meet us . We rang them and they came and took us to the apartment . If you text them you must leave off 39 from the number then the rest of the numbers . The view are stunning . There are lots of cobbles to walk over take some trainer as it is hard on the feet . We hired a car as it is a way outside town . The distance is worth your while . The apartment is spotless everything you would need and very cheap place to stay .

“Rustic charm and a lovely place to wake up”
Reviewed 12 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Our Italian host was most welcoming and very helpful. Casa alla piana is tuck away in a quiet spot away from the main town with great views of the lake and mountain. It is close to the super market which is a short but steep walk away. Bellagio is with in walking distance but this is strenuous due elevated position. The accomdation is modest but has everything you need except an oven? We thought that we would eat out every night but instead cook at home with local fresh ingredients from the super market deli counter, delicious! We toured the lake both by car and boat and our favourite spot at hotel Du Lac in Varenna. The week end was full of pedal and motor cyclist and this would be a great way to tour the area. Casa Alla Piana is a very affordable escape from it all and look forward to our next stay
