Grand Hotel Miramare

Reviewed 13 October 2017

Stayed here for three nights as a part of a Riveria Holiday of the Cinque Terre

It is a lovely hotel - located by the bay with wonderful views of the sea and the gardens

At the back - the gardens are very well maintained with a swimming pool and sun loungers

The bedrooms are not especially large but are nicely decorated keeping in the theme of the hotel. The mini bar is free of charge

Some people on the tour complained about the noise as the walls were thin between the rooms in places but we didn't have this problem

The maids were friendly, kept the room immculate and would turn down the beds in the evening for you and leave information about the weather in your room as well as some candy on your pillow

The breakfast was very good - with a very good collection of foods on offer

The bar was a little pricey but I suppose you pay for the location±!

My main complaint was the evening food - which was included as a part of the tour. The meat eaters were reasonably happy with the food provided - but there were 8 vegetarians and the hotel didn't make any provision for them on the first night (unclear whether this was the fault of the hotel or that Riveria hadn't notified them). Initially we were just offered the salad bar - which was basically lettuce, tomato, carrot - but after complaining - some pasta was provided. On the 2nd night - we were given a plate of cheese - nice cheese - but a plate of cheese isn't a vegetarian meal. On the last night we were given a spinach dish which was nice. I just feel that the hotel didn't make enough effort to provide adequte vegetarian dishes for its customers

Apart from my rant about the vegetarian food - I would recommend the hotel - it is a lovely place full of old-world charm

Dear Guest,

thank you for staying with us and for taking the time of writing your feedback.

We are glad to learn that you enjoyed your stay at the Grand Hotel Miramare.
Your comments were greatly appreciated.

Your feedback about vegetarian food certainly does not reflect the high standard of service and quality that the Grand Hotel Miramare is usually proud to offer.
We must point out that the Riviera Travel hadn't notified the presence of 8 vegetarians.

We are very grateful for your precious recommendation and do hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the not too distant future.

Warm Regards

My room was on the top floor which meant a view of the sea and the bay and right across to the Cinque Terre the sun rise was wonderful, Lovely food and service from very attentive staff, nice touch was the maid came every night to turn the bed down and left a print out of the weather for the following day and a sweet. Would recommend this place to any one it really is first class.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front have a sea view.

We stayed four nights at the Miramare and felt very at home. Our room was in the back overlooking the park like grounds. We booked too late to be able to arrange a sea view room but were very pleased with our very large room complete with walk out patio. (Room 104) The bathroom was nicely appointed and large and of course had high end amenities. The walk in closet was a god send especially since we were staying four nights. The pool area overlooking the sea - breathtaking. Every morning when we went to the terrace for their lovely breakfast buffet, we were met by the picture perfect view over the bay.

Friends who are very familiar with this area recommended that we stay in Santa Margarita Ligure and do day trips into Cinque Terre. We are so glad that we did. Cinque Terre was a bit of a chore to see and we didn't find the five towns that interesting - I'll write a separate review on that.

We however loved the town of Santa Margherita Ligure.

We did the hike from Santa Margherita to Portofino which was great. Portofino we didn't find too appealing; perhaps because of the masses of people, or perhaps because of the touristy nature of the town, perhaps in the off season it is charming.

But the Miramare we absolutely loved!

Room Tip: Room 104, while not sea facing, is a large lovely room with a patio overlooking the grounds on the b...

Spent a couple of nights here and was surprised by the quality of service and the comfort afforded by this hotel. Well appointed rooms with high class of finish.
Good WiFi connection great views close to the local restaurants with both beach access and good walks, has a gym but I did not try it out.
Excellent service from the staff almost "Old School" style, very impressive
Would recommend this hotel which is a cut above the norm and very engaging.

(Only negative was after paying for a room with breakfast we were asked for an extra 10 euro for 2 poached eggs which seems rather unnecessary and quit a disappointment)

Room Tip: ask for sea view probably above 3rd floor

Not used to hyperbole but this hotel was fantastic in so many ways. Our room was spacious and overlooked the swimming pool and the sea. It has its own beach across the road. The toiletries were of a high standard, bed so comfy and the food of an excellent standard. The choice at breakfast was outstanding.

Forget Portofino and its megayachts - Santa Margherita around the headland is the place to stay. If we could afford it we would come back again and again.

Room Tip: Our room overlooking the pool with a sideways view of the sea was as good as we would want.
