Dining out in the Assumption Day's evening in Italy is more or less complicated like choosing where to dine in new year's eve. Many restaurants boost their price tag taking advantage of the occasion, not to mention touristic spot like Liguria, average restaurants were asking around 50euro/head for blunt menus and sad location. Me and my wife found the Bayon's through TA, rung them up and a polite staff took our reservation and explained us that no Menu was proposed that night, we could have chosen à la carte.

Arrived slightly late but greeted warmly we sat and enjoy two beautiful Antipasti, continuing with two main courses with fresh and quality fish.

Service was on spot, the place is q gem, curated and warm enough to push you to come a second time, and a third.
Bill was around 60€, extremely fair for the quality laid on the table.

I have been a frequent user of TripAdvisor for many years, but have never posted. It was not until my awful experience with this restaurant or more specifically, a waiter, that I felt compelled to write my first review.

My husband and I travel frequently and I am a foodie. So, naturally, I do all the research about the restaurants at our destinations and make reservations well ahead of time. Since July is a busy time of year for travel in Italy, I wanted to make sure that we had reservations for restaurants that we wanted to try. So, I made a reservation at this restaurant for my husband, me and our two kids, ages 10 and 12, almost a month in advance.

Note that I had read both great and terrible reviews about this restaurant on this site but chose to give them the benefit of the doubt on the terrible reviews because the great reviews out-numbered the bad. The terrible reviews are mainly about the restaurant staff being xenophobic, racist and unfriendly towards children and I thought...This cannot be – it is 2017, tourists from all over the world visit Italy and I've been to Italy many times and I have never received anything but warm service. Perhaps, the reviewers were over-sensitive and got the wrong impression - was I ever naïve and wrong!

As we walked up to the restaurant, the waiter saw us coming as he was serving customers sitting at tables on the front patio. As we approached the entrance, the waiter quickly put up a stand with a sign that said they were full – no eye contact and no greeting. He just walked away. I tried to get his attention to tell him that we had a reservation and couldn’t get him to come over. My kids noticed that they had tables that were available on the inside and so, my husband proceeded to get the waiter’s attention. My husband inquired about the tables inside and the waiter told him that they were reserved. Then, my husband told him that we had a reservation and for him to go check his reservations book or computer and the waiter tells him that there is no book and that they are fully booked for the next week!

Of course, at this point, my brain is recalling some of the negative reviews I had read and it just made me angry. One thing that I have not mentioned yet is that my husband is Caucasian, I am Chinese and our kids are mixed. We were dressed nicely for a dinner at an upscale restaurant and our kids are well-behaved and have dined at countless restaurants across the budget spectrum. It was at this point that I realized that all those terrible reviews were in fact true! Did we not get seated because we stood out as tourists? Because I’m Chinese and my kids are mixed? Because we had kids with us? All three? The rude waiter treated us with disrespect and decided that they did not want to serve us. It had nothing to do with them being full as we had a reservation. I don’t care if they are rated as one of the best restaurants in La Spezia – on principle, I do not recommend that anyone waste their time and money at this restaurant!

Mi meraviglio che esistano ancora clienti senza rispetto per il nostro lavoro e delle persone che vi lavorano ,ma in Nostra difesa posso dichiarare che al momento delle prenotazioni esiste una agenda con la disposizione dei tavoli (BEN DISEGNATA) se Voi avete prenotato per 2 adulti e 3 bambini con passeggini o seggioloni ovviamente avremmo organizzato la vostra presenza ma non è stato cosi come per la maggior parte delle recensioni per le quali Voi Genitori avete paura a dire che avete figli e passeggini ..per quale ragione??avete paura di non venir trattati come gli altri?
Non siamo dei buffoni ma dei professionisti basta essere Chiari e non raggirare Noi che dedichiamo anima e core a questo lavoro.

Read a lot of good reviews here, but seriously. they must have changed management or the chef, because our food was at best well cooked pasta. Then nothing, no taste but some tomatoes. Frosen and smashed mussels that really looked bad. We had zuppetini di cozze, pasta cozze, frutti di mare and fish with olives and tomatoes. It all tastes the same - only tomatoes. I'm sorry, but choose some other place!

Had a couple of seafood pastas and main courses with a bottle of vermentino wine. Seafood was perfect. Calamari and mussels beautifully cooked - still moist and tasty. Pasta was also nicely cooked which has not always been the case in our trip to Italy. Overall very tasty. Same with the mains. Waiter provide excellent service. Attentive but not obtrusive. He even asked after our pasta if we would like a small break before the mains. We needed it because the portions were generous. Price was about mid range. Definitely recommend.

We had many dishes here and it was all good until my lobster came out. A little disappointing as it was just a lobster set amongst some raw veg and fruits with a small saucer of tartar sauce to dip. Dish was fresh but just not a tasty combination.
