“Ideal base for exploring historic Genova”

Great apartment situated right in the historic centre. We have friends that live and work in the city who have warned us that the Genoese are not that friendly so we were pleasantly surprised to meet our host Rachele who couldn't have been more hospitable and friendly who explained all the places to go, how to get there and what to expect. Rachele has got it spot on, this is how renting to tourists should be like. We had last year based ourselves in Pisa but had real problems with that apartment with appliances not working and having to purchase certain items in order that we could make our stay more comfortable this was not the case with Rachele's apartment, nothing was too much trouble, got us a really good turbo fan as it was very hot during our stay and checked that all was well and if we were enjoying our stay. The apartment has all you need, clean modern, good size and couldn't have been in a better location, living like a local and yet quiet, very safe and very well equipped. Rachele even messaged us on our last night to wish us a safe trip back. It was a pleasure to have met her and would definitely consider renting from her again. The historic centre is a labyrinth of very narrow cobblestone alleys hosting a variety of shops, restaurants, cafes, churches but also close to the main shopping area which has all the designer outlets if required. Would recommend the evening aperitivo you get in bars and restaurants particularly if not wanting a big evening meal, you get aperitif style finger food together with drinks. Genova is not your typical Italian city and is perhaps not the first place people consider when choosing to visit an Italian city, opting for the more popular cities like Rome, Florence, Milan etc but it is every bit as interesting, cultural, lively, full of character and history and I would say easily matches it's rivals - well worth a visit!

“Fantastic Place, Fantastic stay”
Reviewed 25 March 2016 for a stay in March 2016

We stayed with my wife at HSH for 4 nights late March and we really loved it.
Its modern, cozy, clean, located perfectly in the heart of Genova's historic center and equiped with everything we possibly need. The wifi runs great, and hot water is always available!!
Its on the second floor of the building (no elevator) and close to everything on foot (attractions, metro, etc).
Our host Rachele, was very helpful, always available to answer all our questions and proposed us places and things to do!!!
An overall fantastic experience!!!! Highly recomended!!

“Brilliant appartment in excellent location”
Reviewed 14 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We had read about Genoa (Genova) and how it was a compact unspoilt-by-tourist city and were determined to find a location that left us at the heart of it. Home Sweet Home did exactly that, as it was just a block from the port front and once we were shown where it was, we had no trouble in finding it again. Rachele met us at the pharmacia in piazza Riabetta and guided us to her appartment complex.

She went over the access and entry codes, the location of the main tourist sites and even some of the lesser known ones, good restaurants (although we were disappointed by these) and travel suggestions.

We had booked the "white" appartment, but at her request we were swapped to the "grey" one. We didn't notice any difference although from the website pictures the white one looked slightly larger and more commodious. It didn't bother us as the grey suite proved to be ideal but would be somewhat restrictive for a stay of greater length than ours (4 days) as the whole concept is based around the visitor eating out.

As we enjoyed vegetarian food and with an abundance of vegetables of the highest quality on our doorstep coupled with pasta and sauces, wines of every description and fish to die for, we usually opted to dine in. We soon found the only kitchen knife to leave a little to be desired for cutting bread (oh boy don't get me started on the bread) etc.

The kitchen area of the living space worked well and the fridge, microwave and hob all worked and were spotlessly clean. There was also an oven but we didn't have occasion to use it. The tv wasn't used ( only Italian stations) but the free WiFi was, now an essential to the modern tourist.

The shower and toilet facilities were well oriented in a small space and again were spotless and well equipped with soaps and towels.

The bedroom was fine and the bed itself comfortable. Plenty of storage in the two wardrobes but it would have been nice to have a bedside chair to drape clothes over as we retired - perhaps we're just sloppy?

All in all, a well appointed 'pad' if you like the IKEA approach, well cleaned and thoughtfully laid out.

Security was of the highest, I'm not sure it was necessary but reassuring nonetheless. If you don't like stairs then the 2 flights of smooth marble ones to the appartment may be a problem but we gradually became accustomed to them.

For us it was the location that sold it to us and it was this feature that allowed us to assimilate to life in the somewhat Dickensian atmosphere that is the Antico Port of central Genoa. We had no choice but to become immersed in the Genovese ways and soon found our favourite stores for supplies, veg, bread (ooooh foccaciasette) and even items that modern towns do not have anymore thanks to Tesco, Lidl et al.

Do go to Genoa, do stay with Rachele but don't tell too many people!!

“Great Apartmenet”

Hi,

Wonderful apartment in a great location. This apartment is basically brand new, clean and with high end finishes. The WiFi is fast. Rachel is a great host and kept us informed throughout the rental process and on arrival.

Genoa is a very interesting City, proud heritage and close to many interesting sight seeing nearby and in the City. I especially enjoyed all the little stores in the lane ways adjacent to the unit, fruit stores, bakeries, fresh fish, etc.

Many eating options, I used the Tripadvisor and Rachel suggestions, both worked well in finding real Genoa restaurants. The unit does not have air conditioning, but with the thick walls the tempature does not go up too much.
