What a great find. This hotel is a quick 3 min walk fron the train station and as backpackers this was fantastic. The room is the largest we have encountered after 4 weeks of travel in Europe. It offered all the extras and staff were very friendly and efficient. The breakfast was extensive and would cater to all tastes. We would highly recommend this hotel to all travelers.

You get a sense of the style of old Genoa staying in the Grand Hotel Savoia. From the outside, the hotel looks very ordinary, but step inside and it's like you've gone back a hundred years. Not in terms of comfort though - it's all very modern and the wifi works a treat. I booked a Deluxe room, and it was very spacious, and beautifully decorated with a huge painting of the Genoa harbour behind the bed. Parking is easy, if a little expensive at €24 per night. Just give your keys to the concierge and they'll park it for you in a secure garage. The service is friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is expansive, with a full range of fruits, cereals and eggs made to order. My cappuccino both mornings came out from the kitchen a little cold, but that's a minor quibble They also have freshly baked local focaccia. Beautiful. The location is about 15 minutes walk to the centre of the old city - longish. But it's right beside the beautiful central railway station. All up the Grand Hotel Savoia is a very beautiful elegant hotel with great service and I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: The Deluxe rooms have a view out over the station and are worth the extra money.

We were traveling and prior to arrive in Genoa we stayed in Munich and Como in very small and quite expensive rooms. So we were nicely surprised by the room size and the price which was less then we paid in Munich and Como. We didn't try spa, but the rest - room amenities (complimentary water), staff, breakfast, concierge service, location, design - everything was just very good.

Very nice hotel - we were visiting Milan but it was much too expensive so we stayed in Genoa instead. Hotel was the nicest we had in Italy and an excellent price. Wonderful service - the gentleman in the lounge was very nice and recommended some excellent wine. The restaurant was very good as well.

Hard to find initially as the train station is under repairs and signage in Italy is very poor - exit to the taxi signs (large semi-circular area with taxis and bus stops and the Columbus monument to the left) - the hotel is on the small hill behind the Columbus monument.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor

Grand Hotel Savoia is convenient located across from Genoa Principale train station. The service was very friendly and extremely helpful. The rooms are gorgeous (especially the rooms facing the main square). At night you have an unobstructed view of the lighthouse; if you room doesn't face the water, then you can go to the top floor of the hotel. The breakfast buffet was great with an omelette station and fresh fruits/desserts. One of the amenities that was an excellent departure from the sightseeing was the hotel spa. Please do yourself a favor and splurge on this delightful treat. Quiet and beautifully designed, you will find yourself lost for hours trying out all the warm baths and saunas, and resting on the lounge chairs while you sip on the various aromatic teas. Should I return to Genoa, undoubtedly will be staying at this hotel.
