I absolutely cannot imagine a better place to stay in any or all of the five Cinque Terre villages. The location was perfect. Our room was attractive, spacious, comfortable, and immaculate. The staff was friendly, gracious and truly helpful. Breakfasts were special because of the freshly baked breads! We enjoyed conversations with our host, Simone; this former mill has been in his family for generations. Its transformation into a hotel has been beautifully done! From here we visited other villages, by train and ferry (be sure to get a multi-day pass at the train station). It was Simone who suggested to take the boat to Portovenere; this excursion turned out to be a highlight of our stay.
One caution: Manarola, like all the towns of Cinque Terre is built on cliffsides (as you no doubt know; isn't that why you're going?) Even the main street is steep. And there's a lot of walking to be done, up and down hills. Get in shape. To get the most from this place, do a bit of hiking (or at least brisk walking) before you leave home!More
