“Perfect B&B! Even for Families with kids”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2011

We stayed at Il Gatto for 3 nights in May 2011 and it was a great experience. Antonio the owner is a lovely man and was very helpful. It was very easy to make the reservation and when we got there by car, he personally welcomed us, pointed out the restaurants and places he recommended and told us where to park for free.
The apartment is very clean, has everything you need and is just seconds from the main square. It has a fully equipped kitchen… just need to buy food. Has a refrigerator, nice stove and oven. The place even has a washing machine. The bathroom was clean and spacious.
We were 2 families traveling together with 3 small children and it worked out perfect.
We highly recommend Il Gatto to anyone traveling to Cinque Terre and especially when traveling to Corniglia.

Corniglia and Il Gatto B & B is a great place to stay. Antonio is a very nice man and made us feel very welcome. The accommodation is perfectly place it is quiet and easy access to visit the other villages in the Cinque Terre. Even though Il Gatto is advertised as a B& B no breakfast was offered, but we didn't care as the kitchen is fully equiped to do it yourself. Loved the fact that there is no T.V or internet coverage as it is the perfect place for total rest and relaxation. Had the most incredible thunder and lightening storm while there as well as some of the most beautiful sun sets we have ever seen. Thank you Antonio we loved our stay and we hope to be back sometime.

We stayed for five days and wished it could have been longer. As everyone else says this place has it all: clean comfortable rooms; a great view (on a clear day you can see the coast of France and the Alpes Maritime); ideal location; well-equipped kitchen and Antonio is the ideal host: friendly; efficient and welcoming. He even put up with my appalling Italian. Corniglia is the quietest of the 5'terre towns (after all the day trippers leave late afternoon) and does not have any modern developments other than on the outskirts so if it's excitement and a wild time you want then go elsewhere. If it's a place to relax and unwind and also a base for exploring the other four towns and beyond (Portovenere, Lerici, Sestri Levante etc) you're looking for then this is it. In the evening you'll also get some idea of what real Italian life is like outside the cities (especially if you spend time at Bar Nunzio in the square). There's not much choice in places to eat but it's easy to get to Monterosso, Vernazza or Manarolo by train, though you do have the walk up the hill from the station when you get back. Just think about that grappa that's waiting for you at Nunzio's and you'll do it in no time at all.

Some might query the price (we paid the same as at the Hotel Windsor in Nice - our next stop) but Il Gatto will easily accommodate two couples or a small family and it's good value for that. Even for one couple (like us) it was still worth it.

NB There are actually no cats at 'Il Gatto' but if you're a cat fan like us you'll find several nearby only too willing to be friendly and pose for photographs (the white one clearly thinks it should be the winner of the next series of Italy's Next Top Model Cat).

A prossimo anno, Antonio!

My wife and I took our friends to visit our favorite town in the Cinque Terre. I booked Il Gatto by e-mail based upon our needs of a two bedroom apt. Antoinio responded that Il Gatto was booked but he would make his sister's apt. next door available to us. We booked it with no deposit required by him and with assurance that we were confirmed. We arrived by car (Antonio arranged a discount parking fee for us) late but had no trouble locating him through town's folk in the square. He had waited for us and got us settled in. The apt. had two bedrooms, a shared bathroom, and a fully stocked kitchen and breakfast area, and a great view over the vineyards and the sea. Although a bit small it was spotlessly clean. Since we didn't spend much time inside, it worked well for us. Antonio was the perfect host. Even with language challenges we immediatly felt that we were part of his family. He met us several times to check that we had all we needed, joined us in the cafe for breakfast, and even left a card and fabulous bottle of wine for our friends when he learned that they were celebrating their anniversary. Antonio, thanks for everything and for allowing us to be part of your family! Our only complaint was that we had to leave after four days!

To explore Cinque Terre we found Corniglia being the middle village of the five lands was an excellent choice especially if one wishes to hike to each village (two on either side).
The Il Gatto two doulble bedroom spacious apartment is very clean, quite and comfortable. The living area could accommodate further people if needed. The bathroom is equipped with a washing machine and the the kitchen is as good as home. The only thing lacking is television and radio. Note there are a lot of steps so travel lightly, good bars, restaurants and fresh fruit and groceries also within walking distance in this close italian community, This area provides an opportunity to live with the locals and has a good community feel. Il Gatto is highly recommended. The owner
Antonio Spora, contact info@vacanzeilgatto.com is friendly and helpful.
