Description: Nestled in the heart of the city of Trieste, the restaurant Joia is both a grill restaurant, but also a lounge bar. The variety of its menu is substantial and ranges from sausages to meat, fish, homemade desserts, and snacks at the buffet varied. From the very traditional recipe of fresh and healthy foods and the search for raw materials always consistently selected, we can boast of products such as meat-only "fassona Piedmont" and fresh fish every day. A very nice restaurant with a broad Menu and some very tasty dishes. The staff were very friendly too and we felt very well looked after. If you’re looking for a good seafood restaurant in the centre of Trieste, this is a very good option. Price wise, it’s reasonable - expect to pay €6-10 for a starter and €15-20 for the main.

It was a very busy night and the staff were rushed off their feet, but still they kept calm and maintained service. The menu comprises many seafood items that are well cooked. The food was satisfactory to good, but not overwhelmingly so. The meals tended to be on the larger side.

Credit cards were accepted.

We spent an evening in this restaurant, which targets upscale, but left with mixed feelings:

Positive
- Very friendly waiters (young lady and middle-old man)
- Nicely ornated dishes
- Nice decorations

Negative
- Staff unable to recommend a wine, Actually they where even admitting that they do not know their wine. For such a place, with such unusual food we expect, that the staff recommends a wine which goes well to the ordered dishes. As the dishes had been some surprising twists, we actually had then chosen a wrong wine for the dish (not enough body in the wine - was smashed by starter).
Here we recommend some simple training by pairing offered dishes with the offered wines.

Now as the food is out of ordinary, we accept different tastes.
But at least we should have been informed ahead, that the tuna-carpaccio as starter was heavily smoked and not much left from the taste of tuna (the menue didn't mention "smoked" in the description of the meal) and it was a (for us unpleasant) surprise that the salmon with avocado and currant essence was a cold dish which was being served as main dish (secundo).

Therefore we left with the feeling of having paid with 60€ p.P more then what we got as positive experience for.

We visited at sep 2017 in trieste. The food was without any taste. Took too much time to arrive to the table and was too expensive for what you get. Worst combination ever. We just waited to get out. Stay away.

Wonderful food and despite being in a group of over 30, the service was pretty brisk and no errors . We did have to pre order though some weeks in advance . The sardine starter was delicious and plentiful , the pasta dishes huge ( if you are really hungry choose the seafood spaghetti which was vast) and the main course of sea bream fillets was therefore difficult to squeeze in . Be warned and pace yourself ! No comment on dessert menu as no hope of tackling one . Well worth a visit
