We stayed at the Albergo giardinetto in September 2012, for two nights.
The hotel itself is fairly clean and comfortable (although under our bed it was a bit gross), but nothing spectacular, and slightly worse than other European hotels at lower prices.
Our room was a double, on the small side, with tired decor. The room came with a TV (no english channels) and a fridge/minibar, but no tea/coffee facilities (although there are some vending machines on the street nearby).
The breakfast was fairly standard, and offered variety including cereal, toast, croissants, ham/cheese, tea/coffee. However, throughout the entirety of breakfast there was always a member of staff watching everyone (which in a small space of 6 tables, creates a weird atmosphere): everywhere in the hotel (rooms/open space) there are signs in bold saying 'any items from the kitchen that are found in your bedroom will be charged to your account' (i.e. they must have a lot of people who stay and steal food!) Consequently, a member of staff watches every mouthful that you eat, which made me feel uncomfortable and breakfast a somewhat chaotic experience.
The staff aren't friendly (but aren't rude either), you just have to go out of your way to ask them things (a map? can we leave luggage?) - speaking of which, our luggage was just left by glass patio doors which lead onto the street...
You have to pay for internet access (we used the hotels netbook for 2 euros for 1 hour)
The location is good - turn right out of the hotel, keep walking, and it's a 12 minute walk to Piazza Maggiore (centre of Bologna). Taxi from the airport to the hotel costs 20 euros, and from the central train station to the hotel is about 7 euros.
If visiting Bologna again I'd stay elsewhere (better deals to be found), but for a short/1 night stay for a single traveller or a young couple it'd be satisfactory. I'd not recommend for those looking for luxury or a family, and for those on a very tight budget, there are better offers around.
