“Great Location, friendly service, comfortable room”
Reviewed 9 November 2011

I have to agree with the other recent reviews: excellent location just a couple of minutes walk from the wonderful Piazza Maggiore the heart of the old city. Very friendly staff on reception and at breakfast, very willing to help and even share a laugh.
Decent breakfast buffet too: small selection of the key hot and cold components.
I stayed in a stylish modern room, not a huge space but with a comfortable bed and pretty powerful shower (witin a bath).
Room had one of the largest 'safes' I'd seen in a hotel.
As you would expect in a hotel with such a great location, there was a fair bit of overnight noise: laughing, vans reversing, bottles being collected etc.
Otherwise couldn't fault the place for a good value stay in the heart of the city.

This is a wonderful small hotel in a great location. We stayed for a total of 5 nights (with a 2 night Venice break in the middle), and really enjoyed ourselves. The rooms were spotless, very comfortable bed and large, clean bathroom with new fixtures, great hot water. At night they put out an extra little rug by each side of your bed (so you don't have to step barefoot on the room carpeting? Not sure, but nice anyway), and a chocolate on your pillow. Staff was fluent in English and very helpful - making reservations, suggesting restaurants, getting taxis for us. We were skeptical about their suggestions for dining, assuming they had a relative who was the cook, but each time it was great (even if they did know the cook, and it is Bologna, so hard to go too wrong). Other reviews have noted the sounds of the street - well, it is a city, and there isn't much they can do about that. In any event, the hotel is on a side street, so you don't have major traffic or crowds too late in the night. We didn't use the hotel for breakfast, since we liked the idea of standing up with the locals for a cappucino and brioche at the corner Tabach. Only fair comment would be that it's not a place with a distant view of the city - if you want that, you might look elsewhere. We also couldn't quite figure out why there were different rates for the same room on different nights - weekday vs. weekend, closer to end of the month, full moon? - but the overall cost was quite reasonable for the room. What we got was streetlife, people strolling down below, the occassional Vespa roar, the old woman looking suspiciously at us from behind her shutters across the street - just life in a great city from the view of a fine small hotel.

Room Tip: Our first room was heavily designed to honor a fashion designer - can't remember her name. But...

This Hotel is just a few steps from Piazza Maggiore. Very good location for visiting this wonderful city. The rooms are comfortable and well furnished, though not too big. The staff is friendly. Breakfast is quite basic, but correct.

This hotel has a convenient location just next to the city center and just a short walk from a bus stop
for the Aerobus shuttle service. Its limited no of rooms means i.a. that you are given a more personal friendly treatment from the staff who speak good English.Rooms are kept clean and breakfast
is sufficient but a bit limited in versatility.Since this is in the city, one must accept street noice coming into the room even with window shut.Bologna is a good genuine place and well placed for going to Venice or Firenze for the day using excellent train connections. After a day in these tourist infested cities, it feels like coming home to get back to Bologna. To be recommended.

Stayed at Al Cappello Rosso for 3 nights. We arrived just before noon time and we were warmly greeted by hotel staff. We weren't expecting it but our room was ready. Room was on 2nd floor facing main street in front of hotel. Room was very nice and clean. Had no issues with noise from the street at night (kept window closed and had air conditioner on). Nice bath tub and shower. Free computer to use in lobby. Typical European breakfast with eggs and bacon as well. Short walk to bus stops on Ugo Bassi and via Francesco Rizzoli made it convenient to catch buses to train station. When we return to Bologna, we will stay at this hotel again.
