“A little far from main sites, but a great hotel”
Reviewed 10 September 2012

My two night stay at il Guercino was great, with wonderful service and a comfortable room.

The hotel is very close to the main train station - about a five minute walk, and while it's not the most scenic of areas, it is easy to find. However, being close to the station means it's a bit far from the main tourist sites. I was able to walk downtown at a leisurely pace in about 30 minutes or so.

The room was very comfortable. My single room was very clean, with a terrace, rainhead in the shower, pretty wooden furniture and tv. It was also a decent size compared with some of the other hotels I stayed at in Italy.

Breakfast was good, with the usual eggs, toast, cheese, juice etc, and the front desk staff recommended an amazing restaurant next door.

I would definitely stay here again if/when I return to Bologna. While the location is a bit remote, the other amenities more than make up for it.

We stayed in Hotel Guercino for two nights. The service was excellent, the room spotless and very tastefully decorated. There was a TV, air con, minibar and a balcony. For the €67.50 a night we paid we cannot fault it. We was shocked with how good quality it was! The facilities are well beyond what you would expect for the price. The hotel is very close to the train station, so it is a 25 minute walk into the city. The only fault we can think of is the balcony didn't have a light. We wold recommend to anyone visiting Bologna!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony.

The service is excellent, everyone is friendly and helpful. Rooms are fine though sound is badly isolated. There is good wifi coverage on all floors of the hotel, but its ATROCIOUSLY SLOW. The distance is not that far from the train station. Lastly, they have a quite decent breakfeast (for italian standards) with bread, cheese, sausage, cakes and cereals. However, they have a crap machine that serves coffee - how that is possible in italy is beyond me... Anyhow, I still recommend it!

The hotel is situated real close to the Bologna Centrale train station, yet the neighbourhood is quiet. The center of the city is within walking distance. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed every moment of our stay at a very reasonable price.

Room Tip: Rooms with a terrace are great for a cup of coffee and a quiet time.

The staff are welcoming, efficient and friendly and are a strong asset of this hotel. The hotel is well situated, within walking distance of the railway station. There are a number of restaurants, bars and cafes which are within walking distance (can particularly recommend Pizzeria Jari - very close and pleasantly run, and Trattoria Romano - past the railway station - nice family run restaurant, . The hotel does not offer dinner but provides a very nice breakfast, in a small and pleasant room. The coffee machine is excellent, doing justice to the idea that Italy knows what its doing when it comes to coffee! There is also coffee and tea making facilities in the bedroom, as well as a mini bar and safe. There is a sauna, jacuzzi and steamroom available for your exclusive use at a cost of 15 euro per person for an hour - we would like to have done this but the jacuzzi was out of order - maybe next time, it is so hot in Bologna at this time of year that a soak in the jacuzzi would be a good antedote. The hotel clearly values its guests and does keep checking with you that everything is ok - and all this at a reasonable price is very welcome.
