This is a nice farmhouse with a magnificent view over Urbino! We had a wonderful stay here. The room is spacious and very clean, maybe a bit outdated. The swimming pool area is nice, but I had a feeling that the pool area hasn't been cleaned in a while. The hosts are friendly, but not really interested in you as their guests. They never asked us where we're from or what our plans were for the day. The day we arrived, the host gave us a tour around the house, but it felt like he was in such a hurry, as if he had to catch the next train! So rude! I'm surprised the other comments say otherwise! Breakfast was delicious, although I prefer plain toast with butter and jam instead of sweet heavy cake every morning. We enjoyed the diners in their restaurant (bio and slow food) but what I do not like while I'm eating, is when there are dogs running in and out the restaurant (even though they are tiny and cute), it's just not hygienic! Just let them stay outside or leave them at home! But despite my somewhat negative remarks, I do recommand this accommodation!
We spent two nights at Country House La Valle Del Vento which was formerly a farmhouse, having chosen the accommodation predominately due its location and also reasonably close proximity to Urbino (approximately 15 minutes away).
We were certainly not disappointed with the location, as the property is set on a hill, surrounded by the beautiful tranquil rolling countryside of the Marche region, incorporating a swimming pool and is an ideal location for relaxing and getting away from it all. Free parking is also readily available.
Our double room (including bathroom) was clean and extremely spacious, with the furnishings throughout being quite basic and in a rustic style. The windows had both flyscreens and shutters (although the room was not air-conditioned which could be an issue in summer) and the free wi-fi worked efficiently within our room. The fact that there was no television in the room was not a problem and was quite enjoyable to get away from it all. We did however encounter some issues with the queen wrought iron bed squeaking incessantly whenever my wife or I moved and were fortunate that the room had an alcove with a bunk bed, which enabled the restless partner the option of getting away to enable both to have a decent night’s sleep. Also the plumbing facilities in the bathroom required attention, as the shower drain was partially blocked, whilst the toilet cistern had a slow leak. This was subsequently pointed out to the owner, as he was unaware of there being a problem.
On both evenings, we dined in the restaurant due to the convenience and also the fact that the gravel road in and out of the property is narrow, windy and in places quite bumpy and corrugated. Overall, with the exception of one dish (the beef steak which was tough) on our first evening, we generally enjoyed the quality of both the food and wine which was reasonably priced, with the main difficulty being that the menu is solely in Italian, which made the selection of dishes a little difficult, although the owner (Francesco) was of considerable assistance to enable our eventual choice of dishes.
Speaking of Francesco, he was extremely obliging and helpful in every respect during our stay and also spoke good English.
With regards breakfast, having travelled extensively throughout Europe over many years, we felt the breakfast on offer which simply comprised cakes, (which would have been delicious for morning or afternoon tea) biscuits, crotons, jam and orange juice (including tea and coffee) maybe ideal to some people. However, as we have been used to a more European breakfast in other parts of Italy, we felt there was room for improvement to cater for the various differing taste buds.
Whilst this review may seem a little critical, this by no means takes away from the overall enjoyment of the facilities, the most courteous and obliging host and with perhaps a little more attention to the requirements of the modern traveller, this would be an ideal get away.
Nice place, good breakfast, very nice homemade food (slow food), gentle owners, near Urbino, good price. Pefect place to be a couple of days, you can enjoy the swimmingpool, the surroundings and the beautiful places around the Country House
A retired couple, we searched for a base with good food to save the evening restaurant round. Francesco's English is very patient, especially in explaining the specialities on his menu. The food runs from gastronomic to esoteric but always delicious; his local beer and wines are superb and good value. Throw in an atmospheric rural hotel with swimming pool and you have a perfect restful hideaway - one word of advice: keep going down the long country road, slowly!
Our italian friends proposed this year a different trip than the usual Tuscany. Marche is really a beautiful region. The landscape, the culture, the people, the kitchen and wines are not less than the ones of the western neighbors. La Valle del Vento is situated on the top of a hill where the landscape is worth many many pictures and the temperature in the hot summers is perfect, particularly in the mornings and late afternoons. Francesco is a wonderful host. HIs knowledge of the territory is an inspiration for the day trips and his knowledge of the food and wines is a treat when you get back in the late afternoon. We did not have to spend much time to decide where we wanted to go and eat in the evening. There, every day, and still we had not enough time to taste all of the specialties of the house and all the wines of the region. Already looking forward to go back again. Ugo and Ivon.
