I wanted something very special for just a one night stay for an anniversary , so booked the master garden room and was definitely not disappointed. The reasons for the Hotel choice is that it is in a quiet location and just a 5 minute walk from the Coliseum - we didn’t want to get up too early, but still needed to visit first thing in the morning before the crowds arrived and it go too hot - the plan worked perfectly.
On arrival at the hotel whilst the normal Italian passport checks were made, we were shown through reception to the underground portico ruins - this viewing was accompanied with Cappuccino, iced water and a Tiramisu in a cool subterranean chamber as part of the welcome service. Afterwards we were shown to our room which was neither too large nor too small and impeccably decorated, plus immaculately clean. Bed was huge ( over 2 metre wide) and supremely comfortable. The hotel does not have a dinner restaurant, so we eat at one of their recommendations and were not disappointed. On our return there was a bottle of iced Prosecco waiting, so we retired to the large private garden which adjoins the room and had a memorable evening under the stars.
Breakfast on the rooftop veranda and then we managed to cram in a day’s sightseeing. Later returned to collect our flight bags and although we were technically ‘checked out’ we were served complimentary drinks and nibbles , again on the rooftop.
All in all a Hotel with masses of character plus exemplary service from staff who seemed genuinely pleased to look after us.
