Returned after last visit 5 years ago. Had a good room overlooking street then, this time overlooked central central "courtyard" - not good, but probably quieter. Good location within 15 mins of Terminii with luggage and anti-pedestrian attitude of Roman drivers and motorcyclists. Room was smaller but adequate with a shower room that was "compact" and had a shower head that sprayed water everywhere, but plenty of hot water. Breakfast was good for this grade of hotel and the lady overseeing breakfast was very helpful and efficient, don't think she has a day off, we stayed 5 nights and she was there every morning. Reception staff were good and the free wi-fi in reception area was good also. Rooms and towels were cleaned/changed daily and our room had a safe and adequate storage for short stay guests. The same ancient (some would call it quaint) lift operates, if it breaks down, carrying luggage etc to reception and beyond could be a problem. The hotel is within 20 mins walk of Trevi, Spanish Steps, Navona Piazza, Pantheon and numerous restaurants are within 5 mins stroll. Experienced the earth tremors that shook the building slightly but caused damage in central region.

Room Tip: Try and get a room overlooking street, may be noisier but will be brighter.

There's nothing I didn't like! The location is very close to all historical places. The staff is very polite, our room was very comfortable, every morning our room was clean. I liked breakfast very much. So I can say that it's really comfortable to stay in this hotel.

While traveling Italy for a college class we stayed here for a couple nights. First off, the location of this hotel is awesome. You are literally in the middle of everything. 10 minuets from all that rome has to offer. As for the hotel, the breakfast was great, the staff were friendly and helpful, and was very clean. I would highly recommend everyone to stay here!

Room Tip: Great Location, Great staff, Great Value

I stayed at the Hotel Clarin with my best friend for a girly trip away and I am so glad you chose this hotel. The hotel is in a perfect location, around 10 mins walk from the Colosseum and 15 mins from The Trevi Fountain.

We were a bit confused about where the hotel was for a moment as the hotel's large wooden doors were not open, so you had to buzz to get in. Once you get the hang of it, it is very easy to find and work out where reception was (on the 2nd floor!). I also loved the old-school lift - gave the place a big more character too.

The staff at reception as well as the cleaner and the ladies that served us breakfast were very cheerful and helpful. They showed us maps of the city and where to go. My luggage was unfortunately (and annoyingly) delayed at Gatwick. The staff at the hotel were very good with communication and when my luggage eventually arrived, they personally took it up my room, which was extremely nice of them!

Our room was also very spacious and extremely clean! There was no air conditioning but we weren't expecting it. Breakfast again was quaint but sufficient. The catering staff were always very nice and always asking us if we needed anything else or any hot drinks. The room were we had breakfast were small but it was absolutely fine!

An overall brilliant experience at The Hotel Clarin and I would recommend for anyone wanting to visit Rome to stay at this hotel as you would be well looked after!! When in Rome again, I will be staying there!

We stayed in Hotel Clarin 14-21 August 2016. We can highly recommend this hotel.
The hotel has 35 rooms with 20 on the second floor while the rest are on floors 3&4. An old fashioned lift takes you efficiently from a few steps above the entrance at ground level to all other floors.
Reception and breakfast area are on the second floor. Rooms near reception benefit from free wi-fi otherwise there is a daily charge of 3€.
Our room, which was a bit on the small side, had a window looking out at the enclosed quad of the six floor building, had an en-suite bathroom with good shower, free air conditioning, a small fridge and a free safe. The room had a television with lots of channels, but no regular English language ones.
Continental breakfast is available daily from 7.30 to 9.30 with a good choice, but repeated daily. The breakfast room is a bit small, but does the job, and benefits from the free wi-fi.
Reception is open 24 hours with a call button outside the front entrance. Staff in reception are extremely helpful and speak good English. Cases can be left in reception on departure day.
The hotel is about half a mile, and slightly downhill, from Termini (the main metro and bus station).
Walk forward and to the left from the metro and bus station and look for Via del Viminale. Carry on passing Hotel Columbia, Theatro Dell Opera and a Carrefour Express supermarket until you can turn right along Agostino Depretis (there is a Farmacia on this junction).
After about 200 metres turn left down Via Palermo (there is a small magazine stall at this junction). Clarin hotel is on the right after 150 metres (there is a small sign by the door – see my photo).
Not all roads have their names displayed at the junctions - you may have to walk along the road a bit to spot the names.
Our original booking was made through “lowcost holidays” which went into receivership two weeks before our stay. We are grateful that Hotel Clarin allowed us to re-book directly at the original price. Our thanks to Tatiana for promptly replying to all our e-mails during this period of uncertainty.
