“All you need in Rome”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2012

We stay in Amalia 4 nights in early July. The hotel is in the corner of Via Otavianno/ Via Germanico, 1 minute from piazza del Resorgimiento, and 5 min walk from Piazza San Peter.
It has all you need for a perfect stay in Rome. Lets be clear on some points: if you want a 5 stars breakfast with steaks, eggs, and champanhe in the morning this is not for you.You maybe find it in Rome but you have to pay 10 times what u pay here. And this exemple serves for everithing else, the room, reception ect ect.

We know many 5 stars Hotels and this is a 3 stars city hotel, perfect for what ull need.

The owners serves the breakfast in the morning!,they are a nice couple ,him Italian her Brasilian, they make u capuccino or any other type of coffe u need, nice fresh bread, cakes juices and cheses.

U can walk to every atraction from the Hotel. The Vatican and the museum are 5 minutes away.
When going to the old town, 10 minutes walk to the river Tibre, then in 3 minutes u are in Piazza Navona, The phanteon, ect ect.

Then,on the way to Trevi Fountain area we found a great restaurant in via Madalena(it call Madalena) 1 minute away from the best ice cream in the world the Giollati!! 200 metres away.

The day you spend visiting the Coloseo,The Palatino and the Forum we advice u to take the subway(2 min walk)from the hotel, cause its a bit exausting trying to see it all,u dont need the 3/4 Km walk from the hotel adding to that! But its possible to do, your choice.

I was in Rome twice before.I advice Amalia if u want to spend at least 50% of your holidays in the Vatican Area(the museum takes 1 week to see it proprely!).

If u want to see more of the old town and the Coleseo/Palatino/Forum, if u a true fan of "Gladiator" and all Rome History, Like me, i can advise u the Collona Palace, in front of the Italian Parlemient. We where there one of the other times and its great to (the price however is more or less the double of Amalia, so make your choices!)

Any other information needed,just ask.

We arrived early (12 noon) and as our room was ready we were able to check in and freshen up which was brilliant. The staff on arrival were very friendly and accomodating and the room was exceptionally clean and more than adequate for our 3 night stay. It had a safe and the en-suite was fine, albeit with a small shower cubicle. The cleanliness throughout our stay was perfect and the staff were always friendly and helpful. The only minus (hence the 4 star instead of 5) was the breakfast which was very basic, and the breakfast room that was tiny - good tea and coffee though! The hotel is in a perfect location, just 2 blocks (100m) from the Metro giving easy access to the whole of Rome and just 5mins walk from the Vatican and St Peters Square. What more could you want!

Hotel Amalia was the first hotel we stayed during our very first visit to Rome. It is very clean and comfortable. It is a stones throw away from the Vatican and many terrific cafes and restaurants. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to arrange transportation for us at a moments notice. The breakfast was more than adequate. I recommend Amalia for the convenient location to sights and warm hospitality.

The Hotel Amalia is a very friendly hotel less than five minutes walk from St Peters Square and the Museum, the rooms are well presented and clean, there are safes in the rooms. the hotels offers a basic continental style breakfast (minimal variation) with cereal and juices as well as tea & coffee facilities. The hotels lift is small, max 3-4 people, but amazingly quiet. The entrance staff are always very polite and helpful which makes the whole trip that little bit better! Loads of bars and restaurants nearby to eat at.

When we arrived at the hotel we were told that our prepayment, which was made when booking from the hotels internetpage, had not come through, and that we had to pay for the stay again. When we checked with the bank the following day, it showed that we now had paid for the room twice. When taking the print from the bank back to the hotel, they apologized and said they would correct it. To make sure the correction was carried trough properly (we didn't really trust the hotels routines anymore...), we ended up spending altogether half a day of our three days in Rome in the reception while the staff was having a hard time dealing with simple things like making the right phone-calls and getting faxes through. After messing up like this there was no attempt from the staff to make it up to us through any kind of compensation. When we suggested that that would have been the right way to handle the situation, the only answer we got was that it would have to go through the manager, and that he was not available. Altogether really bad routines and really bad service.

Room Tip: Make sure they give you the room you ordered and paid for. They gave us a different one, and when we...
