I liked the hotel. It was good choice considering the outlandish costs of a 5 star hotel in Rome. I definitely liked the location. It's close to the action of the Spanish Steps, the Via Veneto and Borghese Park, yet it's slightly off the beaten path, away from the maddening crowd. Admittedly the concierge's service and advice was outstanding throughout our stay (5-nights). We had reserved a 1-bedroom suite. The atmosphere was 17th century charming, and it had all the right small conveniences, (shower curtain instead of those outdated half windows that create a flooded mess). My only real complaint about the hotel was that the suite was quite small and cramped. There seemed to be more space on the balcony than in the living room, which had only 2 wing chairs from which to sit. Initially I questioned the hotel about this, wondering if they had perhaps given me a junior suite, but was told a junior suite has only 1 large room. Okay. It is what it is. We also had drinks at their roof top bar/ resturaunt which was luxurious, super expensive, but worth the effort. Rome in general is a VERY expensive city and this hotel offers high quality luxury accomodations at a more reasonable price. The Splendide is hardly cheap, but the costs for the same suite at other hotels along the Via Venetto would have been considerably more. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Adding a suite with the balcony makes all the difference.

Dear Guests,

thank you very much for your review, it is important and precious to us that you took the time to express your point of view.

Our suites with terrace are some of the largest rooms in the hotel and our biggest terraces, considering the average space in the downtown area of Rome we would say that our suites are larger than the most of the other hotels and are glad that you enjoyed the terrace during your stay with us.

Thank you very much for your kind comments and we are very glad that you enjoyed your stay with us, we are looking forward to welcoming you again to the Eternal City for your next visit!

Kindest regards

By looking at this hotel website, I was sure to end up in a five star hotel! Think again!!! They did a very good job making their website because when you actually go there....you wonder if you got the wrong address.
The hotel sits in a ugly street. The grand entrance in the picture is NOTHING like you see in the website! I think they photoshopped the picture.
It felt old, small, and dusty! The second day we were there I saw two older couples from US checking in with the same facial expression I had the day before!
The best part of all is: The only 5 STAR feeling I got from this hotel was: THE PRICE!!!!!!
DO NOT GO THERE!!!!!!!!

Dear Sir,

thank you for your comment and point of view. As you stated in your review your point of view is very different compared to all the other ones that have stayed at the Splendide Royal and found our hotel and service outstanding.

The hotel is directly downtown and the pictures on the website represent what you find when you check in.

We would like anyway to invite you to send us an email directly in order to explain what happened during your stay with us, please contact us at management@splendideroyal.com

An excellent choice overall. We stayed for three nights and would not hesitate to return.

Like most other reviewers we found the rooms beautifully appointed with a generous bathroom. The hotel was very quiet and the service in general was impeccable. We did not have breakfast at the hotel, there were plenty of choices along Via Veneto just around the corner.

The location allowed for a easy walk to subway, shopping and most attractions. There were good restaurants nearby and there was easy access to Villa Borghese. However, while the morning walk towards most attractions is downhill, the walk back, usually at the end of a long day of walking, can be a somewhat demanding uphill trek. There is an exit from the Spagna subway station which takes you (via escalators) close to the top of the hill near the hotel.

The Mirabelle restaurant was one of the highlights of our stay. We booked on the day of our arrival and was able to secure an inside table. The view at sunset was spectacular and in future we would book well ahead of time for a table on the terrace. The experience was well worth the price and a great reason to return to the hotel.

Overall we loved this hotel and look forward to returning.

Pros:
Nicely decor deluxe room
Clean and comfortable bed, linens and towels
Having bathtub(though small) and rain shower
Attentive staff. Professional in email handling and booking (borghese gallery and restaurants)
Bus 116 stop is near the hotel which will go straight to the pantheon
Close to Borghese garden/ gallery and via venetto
Champagne and white wine are provided at breakfast
Great variety of fruits and juices provided at breakfast
Free bottled water provided everyday
Noise protection is very good

Cons:
First room offered to us has blocked view window as the hotel is undergoing some renovation at the front. We were pretty upset as we booked room under "Orange Blossom Package " that guarantee good view of Borghese garden and we stay for 5 nights. The hotel should not deliberately treated us this way. Very first bad impression and it took 30 minutes to change room to lower floor.

Breakfast could have been improved in term of variety and quality . It was so boring during our 5 night stay. Menu are the same every day NO CHANGE. No salad/ side dishes such as potatoes, mushroom or egg offered in many styles like those provided in 5 star hotel. Standard menu is scrambled egg, sausage and bacon. Bread and bakery tastes so bad and some look like stale bread from day(s) before. Cheese quality is mediocre/ some are tasteless. Service at breakfast is mediocre not 5 star and under staff. Buffet table /utensils at breakfast looks like those in 3 star hotel. However the view from restaurant (6 fl) is quite nice.

Walking uphill to the hotel is a very long walk. So we ended up not going back to hotel during the day to refresh as it was not so convenient.

No tea/coffee making facilities in room (Cannot imagine 5 star hotel in this century do not have such facility)

No free wifi or internet. The one provided in the lobby is also chargeable.(Cannot imagine 5 star hotel in this century do not have such facility)

Dear Guest,

thank you very much for staying with us and for your good comments and remarks on our hotel.

We will definitely take good advice of your point of view on the breakfast menu although it is difficoult to vary a buffet on a daily base and there is a chance to order a la carte with a difference of price.

The hotel is located directly in the downtown area, a few minutes walking from via Veneto and the Spanish steps. It is located on a hill that allows, for instance, the beautiful view of the Mirabelle restaurant.

Thank you very much for your positive comment on our staff dedication and professionality, we truly believe in team work and in delivering the best service possible.

We are looking forward to welcome you again to the Splendide Royal for your next visit to Rome.

Kindest regards

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of our Med cruise. After much research I chose this hotel due to affiliation with SLH (usually a good sign for a hotel), the location, style and price. It was absolutely perfect. The staff were fantastic, as other reviewers have said, far exceeded my expectations, they were so helpful and ready to assist with everything. Made my mother and I feel really comfortable and welcome.

The decor is very lovely and the location opposite the Borghese gardens is just delightful. Fantastic spot for a pre-dinner cocktail on the Mirabelle terrace overlooking the city of Rome and the Vatican...just stunning. Location is good for access around the city and compared to other hotels, it was worth the money.

One tiny irritation was the fact there was just one single electrical socket in the room, which I had to crawl under a desk to reach to plug my various eletrical items in and out. But the rest of the hotel and stay more than compensated for this.

There is no doubt I would return to this hotel on my next Rome trip and can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, ask for a courtyard / inner room - as long as you don't want a view.
