One of those Must Do things in Rome, you can not miss the Colosseum to view ancient Roman architecture at its finest. You can buy your tickets directly from their official site at coopculture.it but unless you can book very early, you probably won't get tickets for all the levels that include the underground and third ring. Note that a normal entrance ticket does not include the underground portion, the arena floor and the very top tier so be careful what type of ticket you are purchasing if you want to see all those levels (which I highly recommend). If you are not able to purchase tickets directly then will have to find a tour operator that offers these tickets. BE CAREFUL though. There are a million tour operators in Rome and unfortunately like we had, there are some very bad ones (read review for the bad tour operator that we had for the colosseum if you are interested). If you want an EXCELLENT tour company, use EYES of ROME. We did their Vatican tour and it was some of the best money spent. Unfortunately, they were fully booked for the Colosseum when we went so we couldn't use them and thus got stuck finding whoever we could in the ally's near the Colosseum but my goal is to save people the trouble of finding a bad operator by letting them know that Eyes of Rome is one of the best and make sure you see all the tiers - definitely worth it.

Great guided tour of the Colisseum. Had a fun tour guide and got to beat the queues. Paid to see the Colisseum amd Palatine Hill and gardens. Paid €40 each. Good value for money and no waiting!

Get there with time to see everything. We were too late to see the gardens. Mind blowing being in a place with so much history!

Must seen place when you are in Rome. We bought tickets in underground and payed 40€ for 2 adults and 2 kids (8 and 10). With this tickets you are allowed to enter Forum Romano and Palatin also. There is a lot of quides around the Coloseum which offer priority entrance but we were waiting aprox. 15-20 minutes.
