Fantastic place to stay

Review of A Peace of Rome
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 11 Jan 2017
Central to everything, lots of shops and restaurants close by. Great little super market down the road. Clean, big rooms, linen and towels high standard. Very quiet. Daniele is very friendly and knowledgeable (has some very funny stories to tell). He is always very helpful. Booking direct is easy with these guys. This was our second time here and one time at A View of Rome will most definitely be back, in fact wouldn't stay anywhere else when in Rome

This is a b&b without breakfast but the rooms are spacious and clean and if you plan to be out and about for most of your stay and simply need a base and somewhere to sleep and shower then this will be perfect for you. You are located about 5/10 min walk from the Vatican and 30/40 min walk from the colosseum. You also have plenty of shops and restaurants and the equivalent of Oxford St not 5 mins away by foot. We were greeted upon arrival outside of the hotel, and Daniel provided us with a map and a wealth of knowledge of the best eateries, street food, transport, sights to see and the best way to avoid queing which proved valuable during our stay. I would recommend a peace of Rome but to reiterate it is suitable for those that like to dance to the beat of their own drum and will spend most of their time out.

We routinely check TA ratings and reviews prior to booking anywhere and we did the same when we found this 'B&B' in our search and were pleased with the high ranking so locked in our booking expecting the usual 'wow' of a highly rated venue.
There is much we can say that is fantastic - great welcome, well located, comfortable beds , clean sheets, and lots of nearby amenities that confirms this could be top class accomodation.
Unfortunately, there a longer list of 'disappointments' that make us rate this as 'Average', and it only just gets that.
The entire venue is in need of a refresh- the walls are marked in many places, the skirting boards are dirty, our room (#2) smelt of smoke (and although we brought this to the managers attention her response was 'what can I do about it') , the cleaners are haphazard especially in the bathroom, maintenance is average quality too. Whilst we knew there was no breakfast provided or available in house, the fact that the tea / coffee facilities are of the lowest standard ( instant Nescafé, no fresh milk, mis-matching cups and plastic spoons) makes this more like a simple motel than a B&B.
Whilst this may be a top rated venue I doubt it will remain there if something isn't done to refresh soon and invest some of the revenue in lifting the service. I'd stay again if it was tidied up and had a new mood on customer service but couldn't recommend it the way is today.

Dear Pricer,
Thank you for your review. We are glad for the good words you spent for our property but really sorry for the opposed disappointment that you expressed.
I think it is important to mention that during your stay none of us Managers had the pleasure to meet you. Those you meet are employees. After reading your review, we took time to talk with them in order to have a better idea of what was your experience with us. What we understood is that the day after your arrival you mentioned the fact that the day before you smelt smoke in your room. The answer of our employee was that your room, as all our rooms, is a non smoking room and it was strange for her that you had smelt smoke inside. She supposed that maybe the smoke arrived from the street or that a previous guest had smoked in the room despite the “non smoking rule”. She says that she apologized for the discomfort but since the smell wasn’t there anymore she thought there wasn’t much she could do anymore. She would have certainly offered you to change room is the smell was persisting.
You wrote that you were aware that we do not serve breakfast in our property yet you appear disappointed because you found complementary coffee, tea and cream together with the facilities to make it… This isn’t easy to understand for us: you complain for getting for free something you didn’t expect to get?
Anyway, concerning your suggestion to renovate our property, I am glad to inform you that it is already planned a renovation for next month. Although the property was opened in 2010, we are aware that white walls and furniture are more likely to ruin and need more attention than others.
You might not know but we Manage a total of 3 properties and this year we started renovation of all of them. The first one was completed in December; A Peace of Rome, as I said, will follow in January. It is a big effort for us but, as from the beginning of our Management, we want to offer to our guests the best possible experience, always. That’s why we started this renovation despite the difficult economic period we are experiencing. Since we started our business in 2009, the market is becoming more and more competitive because of the opening of thousands of unprofessional properties that are making the market collapse, offering low prices but also low services. We started this business having an high professional background and are trying day by day to stay alive in this kind of market, keeping the standards high although the revenues are dropping. For this reason your disappointment is even more unexpected and distressing for us.
We hope that you will come back after the renovation and change your mind. We just have one request, to you and to all our guests. If ever there is something that you think we could do better, don’t wait to go back home and then complain on the distance, when we really can’t do anything about it and your comment will damage us, probably more than you think. Talk clearly with us while you are here and help us to offer you the best possible service.

Thanks again for your feedback, we would welcome you back any time in the future.
Best Regards
Daniele

We was sad to leave - if we ever visit Rome again then this is where we'd want to stay, you'd be silly not to pass this one over!

Our rooms were clean and replenished daily with towels/coffee etc, rooms had en-suite shower/toilet/basin/bidet and the usual soap and body wash things, air con/heating and a firm but not to firm bed.

Depending on your fitness it's within walking distance of pretty much everything - we took a bus to the Colosseum one day and walked back taking in the views and getting a bite to eat, the bus tickets can usually be purchased from a corner kiosk or newsagents, think it was 1.50 euro one way and you get approx an hour and a half of time before it expires or pay 7 euro for a go anywhere you like one for the day including return!

If your on a tight budget then just buy some sandwiches/food/cereal/plastic bowls&spoons or whatever from the supermarket across the road and put them in the fridge in your room to save buying out!

As mentioned in another review there are beggars here and there and also the nearer you get to an attraction the guides are pestering you to go with them so as to beat the queue's, obviously at a price!

Usual street sellers selling things like roses or selfie sticks and fair few food establishments have the usual guy outside coaxing you to go in!

One thing, if your not very streetwise like us then your in for a treat at zebra crossings! The ones that have a green man on are usually fine but those that don't you have to be a little brave and gingerly start to make your way across, traffic will then give way to you but will pass behind you once your out there way....my only regret is I never video'd any of this to show peeps
back home! perhaps we should get out more! Simone and Daniel our thanks to you both for your knowledge and guidance and very warm welcome and for giving us a peace of rome :-)

Room tip: Our rooms were both on the main road side and never had an issue with traffic noise - with double and curtains for us it was fine!

Spotlessly clean. Fairly good location, not far from the Vatican and its Musei.

Both before and after arrival, I was given all the relevant information and all my questions were answered in great detail.

The only negative thing is that, at least the room I was given, almost all available space is occupied by the beds (albeit spacey and comfortable) and there was only one chair in a four-occupancy unit.

Small hotel but only a few blocks from the Vatican. Very friendly and room was comfortable. We went in October so there was a cool breeze at night. Do keep in mind that when booking hotels or B&B, you will need to pay the taxes when you check in. This hotel is on the second floor and there is an old elevator so if your luggage is heavy or you have a lot, it may take a few trips to get everything and everybody up to the hotel but it was not a problem for us. Hotel is charming - no restaurant or food available but Restaurants are plentiful around this hotel and the host/hostess were extremely helpful with mapping places of interest. there is a coffee maker in the room. Definitely recommend this hotel
