“Perfect cheap and cheerful but like posh'ish camping”
Reviewed 6 May 2017 for a stay in April 2017

The rental is very clean and as long as you are use to a hard mattress and lumpy pillow a shower that you have to master or it can freeze or scald you it's great. As long as you are use to cooking in a table top oven with one shelf and if you drink tea or coffee don't forget the milk you will love it. As long as you are a brave driver or fit on your feet it's amazing. The parents who live above are really friendly and they make the local hooch really good stuff and also excellent cakes. one of the daughters can speak fairly good English and they are all very kind and helpful. It is advisable if driving or using a taxi to use Villa Flavia as a destination as it is the wedding venue just up the road and is sign posted turn off left just after the dance school or you will not find it.We used a Taxi and I had to navigate him. The taxi firm were good but because they had no clue where we were staying it was an extra 10 euros. If you want to use the train it goes up in price through the seasons. But be VERY careful of pick pockets they are rife and good at what they do. Apart from that we had a great time and please if you are to visit the sites I recommend that you visit Herculaneum (Erculano local version) first it is much better preserved and more compact, then do Pompeii to compare and not have to walk so far. Just like every where tourist areas expensive shop back streets local areas really reasonable prices. Oh and only at the meat if in tourist areas. We loved this place it was a really amazing adventure we seen the back villages and real life as it is in Pompeii today.

“Great little villa”

We have just returned home from Pompeii having enjoyed one of the best holidays I can remember.
We have explored the whole area thanks to our hire car.
The apartment was basic but pleasant and clean.
We did however find a few niggles, not enough to spoil our stay though.
The oven did not work at all , we had to make do with a work top oven which did the job.
The hot water in the shower was a nightmare, it ran hot and cold, burning one minute and freezing you the next! If you need or enjoy a bath, take a plug as non are provided.
We stayed in the far double room. The mattress was well used and dipped on both sides.
These as I said did not spoil our stay.
The views are fantastic especially on an evening watching the fireworks which appear to be a constant entertainment.
The hosts were lovely and did give us a beautiful tiramisu and fruit upon our arrival.
We hired a car for the week and made full use of it. It is a must if you intend to explore the area. I must at this point send you a warning. The locals drive with no respect or care for others or themselves for that matter.
The minute you sit behind the wheel you need to think like an Italian drive. Do not wait at a junction for a gap to pull out, rather squeeze your car in to a gap between two speeding cars! (Not joking)
We have loved our holiday and our villa
I would and do recommend this villa to you and this is the reason for my total honesty in my review

Arrived late after holdup with French traffic controllers, so arrived at 2 am and owners were delightful and stayed up to let us in! Monica speaks good English but her parents only speak Italian, lots of sign language used.
Apartment was clean and with homely touches- fruit & cake on arrival and hairdryer in bathroom. lots of outside space to use and plenty of car parking. Views of Capri & Vesuvius.
Good base for visiting Pompei and Capri, easy access onto A3
A little difficult to find ( follow signs for restaurant Flavia and turn left after ballet school- sat nav essential in Trecase ) roads are very narrow and Italian drivers assume they have right of way from which ever direction they come from...

“Good location for Pompeii and the bay of Naples”
Reviewed 30 November 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Finding it is tricky. You will need a satnav if travelling by car (which we did - it helps getting everywhere). The apartment is very clean and big with 2 double, 1 twin room and two bathrooms. I say that because it isn't clear in the descriptions.
Easy to get to Naples, Pompei, Erolano (Herculaneum). We did our shopping in Torre Annunziata, 5 minutes away in the car. There's some super cafes and ice cream shops on their main street. Just about everywhere around the bay looks run down and dirty, but that's just what it's like here.
They requested 200 Euro deposit when we arrived. Returned before we left (they got up at 4am because that was when we were leaving). I wasn't sure we were communicating clearly. Although they can speak England, it came across a bit off hand. It would be helpful it you could speak Italian. That's true everywhere we went. Don't expect everyone to understand English!

Good things:
Apartment size
Location
Price - it was very reasonable - why I would recommend it
Wifi - did drop out occasionally - but works
Bad things:
The 2 TVs didn't work at all
Some of the lights don't work (owner suggested they weren't connected). The worst was the kitchen, over the sink and cooker.
The hot water would run cold sometimes.

“Very spacious with a great view!”
Reviewed 13 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Villa Cantinelle was one of our favorite places to stay in Italy. It sits on the hillside just above modern Pompeii with a nice view of the Mediterranean and the Isle of Capri especially at night. It is a one floor apartment under the owners home. There are no more than 1 or 2 steps to the front door making it the perfect place for anyone who has trouble with stairs. The home is gated adding a sense of security and there is room to park 1 vehicle within the gate. I do not recommend staying at Villa Cantinelle without you own vehicle unless you are willing to walk from the town. I would be very leery about the walk at night because the road to the apartment is not wide at all and there is very little if any lighting in many spots. The apartment was very clean and had plenty of room to spread out and relax both inside and outside.
