We loved our stay here. This is a Residence or B&B, not a hotel. It has three beautiful rooms with lovely views of the castle. It is immaculately decorated with very modern comfortable furnishings. It is air conditioned and has double gazed balcony doors so there is no street noise. It is 5 minutes from the port for boats to Sorrento. It is 2 minutes from Metro Municipo which is two stops from the main line station Garibaldi. There are loads of restaurants nearby. Fillipo, Manuella, and Martina were always on-hand to give advice. Breakfast is served in the reception area. If you are English and want an English breakfast, you need to specify exactly what you want or you will get a typical Italian breakfast which may not be to your taste. If we are ever in Naples again, we will stay here. I cannot fault it.

Some reviewers have commented that it is not easy to find. That is nonsense ! Simply ask your taxi to take you to Calata San Marco. He will drop you or the corner where there is a small square at the end of the road with is a bar with seating outside. Carten is right next to the bar, opposite the tree. Press the bell and you will be let in.

We absolutely loved the quirkiness of this place, from its location in a traditional Napoli courtyard, to its boutique style, with a beautifully designed bedroom and shower (loved the tiles). The bed was unbelievably comfy. We looked out onto the courtyard which I suspect meant it was quieter. Breakfast was again quirky with either Fillipe or Valeria serving in the reception area (you could have breakfast in bed at no extra charge, which we did not opt for). But the best thing about this B & B was the attitude and delight in wanting to share their city from both Fillipe and Valeria. Valeria spoke excellent English & was simply charming, Nothing was too much trouble - for example one morning she went out of her way especially to buy us two traditional Viennese pastries. Great place to stay very conveniently situated 2 minutes from the Metro. Go!

Carten in Napoli is a fabulous boutique B&B hotel. It is located within 5 minutes walk to Castel Nuovo & many highly rated restaurants.

It is definitely worth upgrading your room to a 'spa bath' room which has a small balcony looking out onto the Castel. The room is amazing from start to finish. Everything is automated, lights, blinds, shutters! The TV has wifi, YouTube, Netflix etc. The jacuzzi bath is big enough to fit a family & even remote control LED lighting to set the mood! Mini bar & air con make for a very comfortable stay.

The owners are very attentive, friendly & helpful with all requests. Breakfast consists of freshly squeezed juice, pastries, cappuccino & toasted sandwiches. Delicious.

Finding the hotel is a little difficult as it is located inside a public courtyard (through gates) & up on the 2nd floor. This is typical in Italy. There is a lift to take you almost to the door. Initially we were a little worried but once inside, we walked into luxury!

Walk in distance from port. Beautiful, clean, large room with huge bath and comfortable bed. We had a city view on Castle Nuovo, room was very well isolated from all that city noise. Super friendly and helpful service. In room breakfast was very sufficient and tasty. Would stay again.

Let me begin by saying I would stay here again.

The room is spacious and comfortable. The bed is king size, with ONE mattress, not two twins pushed together. There's a sitting area, TV, wardrobe, desk with two chairs and a small refrigerator. Also, very efficient air conditioning. The bathroom has two sinks and a HUGE jetted bathtub. It's almost a true square in size, literally large enough for four people. It's more like a hot tub than a bathtub. It has mood lighting and--most uniquely--a waterfall that comes down from high upon the far wall, so that you can sit under it and let it cascade over you.

I'm not sure if all rooms have the same set-up. We were in room 11. The room has a small balcony--big enough to step out onto, but not large enough for chairs. It overlooked a main street. We could see the castle, but not the sea. I'm not sure if that's always the case, or only because construction is being done in front of the castle and perhaps it blocked that view. You can hear street noises (not construction, just faint from vehicle motors and horns) with the window closed, but only subtly.

Speaking of rooms, it appears there are only three in the entire place. This property is more like a combination of a boutique hotel/private apartment/bed & breakfast set-up. This is the part that can be surprising.

If you are from anywhere that doesn't have hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years of history, the first view of this property might be shocking. And in a negative way.

We were looking for a true hotel. Number one: There's no large sign overhead from the street. The name is on a small plaque alongside a metal gate. After pushing the intercom button and gaining entrance, you walk into an open courtyard. Honestly? It's not a good first impression. My husband was about to turn and run. The building is what I would expect a typical residential building might be in a large, gritty city. (Note: I saw the premises being cleaned--floors mopped and windows washed--during our stay, so it's definitely clean and care for.)

We were met by the lovely Valeria, who came downstairs to meet us and help us with our luggage. (More on her later.) My husband went with our two large suitcases in the small elevator--there was only room for one person--while I walked up the two flights of stairs. On level two, the elevator ride ends and there is another smaller flight of stairs (7-8 steps?) with no option but to walk. Staff will gladly help you with your luggage though.

Here's where the impression changes. The door opens to reveal a bright and modern reception area. Valeria offered us cappuccinos. A couple of tables are there for breakfast (which is included) in the morning, unless you prefer it delivered to your room. We had croissants, fruit and ham & cheese panini sandwiches (a "typical" Italian breakfast) but were asked what we wanted and I believe any reasonable request would have been prepared. It doesn't appear to be a set menu.

Valeria was incredibly welcoming and helpful. She is a huge asset to the Carten. She spent time sharing a map with us and suggesting where to visit. She also personally decorated our bed with "flower" petals to recognize our 30th wedding anniversary.

It's an easy walk (1 block-ish) to the port where you can catch a ferry and also the aforementioned castle. It's a short walk to the must-see Galleria Umberto and the Teatro San Carlo. There's a Metro stop nearby which is convenient to get around the city.

The interior of this property is without fault. If you can get past what could be a questionable first impression--and really, you're spending your time INSIDE, not outside the property--I predict you will be 100% satisfied, as we were.
