Hotel websites often try to present their establishments as something more than reality through creative photography and presentation. At JK Place, the images from their website are actually very good representations of the decor and ambiance. As a nice and much needed change of pace, the minimalistic approach that has become common over the past decade as far as sophisticated hotel decor goes has been thrown out the window at JK Place in Capri (it would actually be nice to see other hotels follow JK's lead in this regard). High quality furnishings, fixtures, decor and textiles, all in a modern italian marine interpretation, create interior surroundings that are warm and inviting. Art work, mirrors, pictures, light fixtures, ceramics and furniture fill the walls, open areas and corners. The motif extends consistently throughout the reception, living rooms, dining room, bedrooms, veranda, pool area and spa.

The location, set cliffside heading up the mountain about 500 yards from Marina Grande, provides easy access to the piazza in the center of Capri without being in the middle of the tourist crowds. Access from the marina to the hotel is accomplished either by a short 7 to 10 minute uphill walk or, alternatively, through use of the hotel's complementary shuttle service that can pick you up upon arrival at the marina (assuming you arrived by ferry service or private yacht transfer). Once at the hotel, getting to the piazza in the center of Capri is accomplished either by the hotel's on-demand shuttle service (about 10 minutes), or by walking back down to the marina and then taking the Funicular Railway (mountain tram) up to Capri's main square.

From our perspective, being away from the tourist crowds (which are jam packed during the day until about 5:30pm when the last ferry departs the island) was more desirable than having immediate access to the center of Capri. At the same time, there are very few other establishments on the  island that have the same brilliant and aspiring sea views experienced at JK Place given it's cliff side location. The trade off between the views and remote location are worthwhile.

The service provided by the staff was consistent throughout the property, whether sitting on the veranda for a cocktail, lounging by the pool, enjoying a spa treatment or dining at the restaurant. The service can best be described  as understated, gracious, with an aim to please; and, above all else, everyone always had a genuine smile. The staff are professional and take pride in their efforts. There appears to be a high ratio of staff to guests given the limited number of rooms which creates a warm and friendly atmosphere where the staff are proactive and are not overloaded. The staff appear to genuinely enjoy what they do; and in combination with the above attributes, enables a guest to feel right at home.

The rooms are well cared for with crisp linen sheets and comfortable beds and pillows; including a sitting area with a  flat screen satellite television (although most channels are in Italian), a sofa and side chair (this was for rooms 21 and 22 on the 2nd floor). The bathroom included a separate dressing room which, taken together, was large and decorated with beautiful mosaic tiles, high quality fixtures and fittings, marble trim and a deep tub (the connecting room for our early teen girls included a shower only however).

While many of the sea side facing rooms have small balconies, our two rooms, in particular, had oversized patios overlooking the marina and beach below with lounge chairs and a small table that provided a nice private escape to enjoy breakfast or relax at the end of the day. As a minor area of improvement, the light colored throw rugs in the guest rooms are showing a little bit of wear and tear, as are some of the white walls where the furniture leans against them; otherwise, the guest rooms appeared well maintained.

The large pool, with it's cliffside setting had breathtaking views of the Capri mountains and deep blue sea while being surrounded by lush vegetation and landscaping. The lemon trees and hedges provided an appropriate barrier between the pool and the road that leads down to the marina, although larger trucks could be heard on occasion from the pool as they pass the hotel.

The pool area included sufficient lounge chairs, tables and seats around the pool (both shaded or unshaded) to ensure all guests had a place to relax. At the same time, while the pool itself was very large, the setting is actually surprisingly intimate given the limited number of other guests at the hotel. Poolside service ensured towels were readily available and a cocktail, bottle of wine or other refreshment was never far away.

For all of breakfast, lunch and dinner, meals were enjoyed on the veranda alfresco overlooking the harbor, anchored yachts and Capri Mountains on the veranda with pleasant cool breezes. The inside dining room was always an option, but would have sacrificed the great weather and views. Creative and unpretentious italian gourmet meals with a focus on local dishes and fresh ingredients were made available (and the pasta was truly outstanding).  While off the menu offerings on request and daily specials provide variety beyond the planned menus. The meals were first class and delicious, while being complemented by attentive yet unobtrusive service.

A sampling of our dinner for four from our 1st night included a starter "gift" from the chief of deep fried cauliflower; while we enjoyed the asparagus and leek pie with cheese fondue for an appetizer. The pasta course consisted of a tortilla pasta stuffed with caciotta cheese and marjoram served with courgettes and basil sauce; and a linguine with fresh shellfish and tomatoes. The main course included fresh sea bream prepared two ways - one with a light potato crust and the other coated in a tomato, basil and black olive topping; a fresh Mediterranean Sea Bass grilled with capers; a grilled filet mignon with homemade french fries, and a risotto with parmesan cheese. For desert, we were provided with several "gifts" including a chocolate mousse and cookies, while we also ordered both a cheesecake and a chocolate cake with orange sauce.  The quality of the food, it's preparation, presentation and taste were all exceptional.

Breakfast was simple, yet well prepared and included a selection of fresh breads, rolls, cakes and pastries; mellon, kiwi, pineapple, dates and figs; yogurt and cereal; and mozzarella and tomatoes all served as part of a buffet; while made to order eggs, omelets, pancakes and French toast were provided a la cart.

There is a detached full service spa and fitness center on the property adjacent to the pool area. The decor of the spa extends the general theme reflected throughout the hotel. The spa offers a full menu of options for both men and women, and they even have a special list of services aimed at young adults as well. The spa staff are professional while at the same time friendly and courteous. Our family took advantage of several services including facials, manicures and a massage. All were delivered to high standards.

If someone wants to be in the center of all the action on Capri, the JK Place is probably not the best choice; however, the ease of getting around the island from the hotel makes the location a non issue. If someone is looking for a hotel with a plethora of activities, JK Place might not fit the bill either. If, however, someone is looking for a truly relaxing escape, where you can enjoy reading a book, swim in a brilliant pool, dine on exceptional cuisine, soak in the sun while enjoying inspiring views, then JK Place fits perfectly. The hotel is expensive, but probably not off the mark when compare to the other high end properties on the island. However, given the service provided, the location, the quality of the interior and furnishings, and the terrific food, the expense is well in line with what JK Place offers.

In summary, our entire family had a fantastic stay, where all of our expectations were met and even exceeded; and we are all very much looking forward to coming back and visiting the JK Place on our next trip to Capri.

Most Boutique SLH hotels are very small and lack certain amenities such as pools and fitness areas and are often uncomfortable. But not the JK. It has great design and decoration it is very elegant and modern at the same time. The pool and the deck are great with very nice furniture and a great service. The restaurant has very good food even tough it is small. The views from all around the hotel are breathtaking. The rooms are very confortable have all the amenities a 5 star hotel should have. The staff is great and they will help you make the most of your stay

Okay when I was in college and stayed at cheap hotels you were lucky to get a door on the bathroom...and when I was in my 20's and 30's I was never exposed to hotels that did not have a solid door to separate the toilet from the rest of the room or bathroom.
BUT at JKPlace I had been warned and read on this website that the bathroom has louvered doors!! One can be heard doing one's business and after all this time I still as a married lady want my privacy. It was most annoying and for this reason I am hesitant to rebook there.
The pool area is divine and the deck overlooking the ocean is a fab place for drinks. I did not have one meal here as we were told not to bother by a friend who has been going to Capri for 15 years. The staff was lovely and took great care of all the details of our plans. Another couple that we saw at another hotel in Italy after we left told us they had THE worst experience with the laundry ( bleach ruined his black shirt..laundry was reeeeallly pricey..200USD for 6 items) and the staff. I must admit the wait staff at the bar while kind and chatty they were MIA a lot and did not ask if we wanted refills.
The front desk staff was amazing.
When everyone moans about the shuttle I think it is just too much. One van. Enough. The guy leaves at 11 and if you miss him then take a cab.
They shuttled us to town and to the marina for our private boat ride.
They picked us up after our two excursions. The captain calls the hotel and it was so easy. The nice thing about this hotel is that if you are catching the ferry to Naples or Positano it is not far...but this is not a deal breaker for us. We spent a few days in town at another hotel that was more low key but lovely.
We liked each for different reasons.
I liked being able to walk to Da Paolino...and not have to fight to get a sun lounge by the pool. I liked the big gorgeous room with the fabulous tub, closets, fruit, water etc
Huge TV and great blackout drapes.
I did not like the loud kiddies on the public beach below..it made me annoyed as I left my kids to get away from all that and it made me miss them even more. Eventually you just tune it out...but this may bother some. We WERE below the first floor in an ocean front room and it was loud when some people bounded around but we were awake by then..so it was not an issue.
The good thing about that floor is that there are two powder rooms on that level..so I sent my spouse or I would go to the powder room for privacy that our rooms bathroom door could not provide.
The breakfast was good. They bring lovely nibbles with your evening drinks and it is a lovely place for that...drinks on the terrace.
I would not stay there again the whole time as there are many more places to investigate like Anacapri...but they do a fine job here.
( one more thing..the spa massage table was BEYOND hard and hurt my chest. I would not go again. At all. It was too painful)
